It sure doesn't sound like it for the next two years. I would speculate we might have a shot when the next LR replacement comes out...

It's hard to understand the logic of this considering BMW, Mercedes, Audi, VW, all offer diesels. It is also difficult to understand why they wouldn't offer it here when it is already in existence elsewhere.

Its really not difficult to understand. Diesels have never took off or been accepted over here like they have in europe. Over the last 5 years there are more diesels offered in the US, but still not like europe. Mercedes only offers 4 models in diesel and BMW 3 in the US. VW and Audi (same thing) has always been a big proponent of diesels. I dont think the
LR4 TD would do well here.

There are lots of models that arent offered here. Like the Defender, or Mercedes A and B class.

You will see Mercedes up the number of diesels in the near future. When I was in Moab early in July, the parking lot of the motel we stayed at had 32 Mercedes cars in it. Everything ranging from SLK roadster replacements to the big S class sedans. There were prototypes of the ML, SLK and one other. I snapped a couple of pictures of heavily disquised MLs in body cladding and car covers for overnight storage. The covers had locks on them too.

I toured around the parking lot and everything that wasn't a prototype was a diesel. Even the C, E and S class sedans. I was lucky enough to talk to a group of German engineers that morning. They were in Death Valley conducting desert/hi temp testing there for a week and were on thier way to Denver over the next few days. On the way to Denver they were going to do hi-altitude testing in Colorado.

For a automotive enthusiast as my self, it was a great morning to be in Moab to see all the hardware and talk to the engineers.

I sure wish that LR would bring a diesel to the US, I think they would sure have a homerun with the LR4 buring oil.

I would have a hard time picking the diesel over the new V8. The diesel is a bit slower, how does the torque compare?

Not sure about the diesel numbers, but the new V8 is awesome. 375 for both HP and torque. I rarely use it all, but it's nice to have when I do need it.

Still, I would be really happy getting more than 20mpg with the LR4. I think the only way to do it would be a diesel option.

They ARE catching on as evidenced by the diesel offerings in these brands. What's not to like with huge low end torque and significantly improved fuel consumption and range?
