Can somebody confirm if the passenger side chain and the driver side chain are the same; I imagine they are (given the physics) but I'd like to be sure (part LR032048). Same question for the tensioner (the hydraulic/spring tensioner) (part LR095472) and then again for the guide (the aluminum part) (part LR051013)?

In the Atlantic British kit; what part is this (red arrow is pointing to it):

British Atlantic also seem to sell the oil timing chain parts as well; is this something that really needs to be changed? Is this simple or another can of worms?

Thanks as always.

I'll answer my own questions based on more research and getting comfortable with this...

"Can somebody confirm if the passenger side chain and the driver side chain are the same; I imagine they are (given the physics) but I'd like to be sure (part LR032048)"
They are the same, on my shopping expedition I found a few sites that clarified this.

"Same question for the tensioner (the hydraulic/spring tensioner) (part LR095472)"
Same answer, they're the same
"again for the guide (the aluminum part) (part LR051013)?"

Same, this however is the metal guide that causes the timing issues (metal lined with some sort of nylon), the plastic guides are not identical (parts LR051011 (right) and LR051012 (left))

The pin shown above is the guide pin for the auxiliary driver (part LR011063).

I'm still on the fence with regards the oil timing chain, any thoughts anyone???

Chains and tensioners are the same.

The issue with the guides are that the chain tensioners are metal and the guides are aluminum. The tensioner will wear into the guide.
The battle between metal and aluminum, metal always win.
The new guides have a metal button where the tensioner pushes on the guide.

I would leave the balance shaft chain alone.

Thank you, absolutely understand the problem with the original parts you had steel pressing on aluminum and it wore a hole in the aluminum! How this ever got signed off is beyond me; especially with the analysis that goes on to design these components. Will leave the balance shaft and associated parts alone as I understand these are not a common failure point.

Did you buy the British Atlantic kit? I’ll be starting this in the not so distant future and curious what people are doing for parts if it’s genuine only or are some after market kits alright?

I'm totally purchasing OE; they've lasted 102K miles so no need to change that formula. I ended up purchasing some stuff from FCP Euro and Lake Bluff Land Rover. It's all in a spreadsheet (with links) if you need the list? I hate to say it but British Atlantic can be quite expensive and I didn't want to do everything in their parts list.

Thanks for the info I would love the list if you’d be willing to share.

No problem, send me a PM with your email and I'll send it your way! Also have one with cooling system parts if needed?
