The annual 19 inch tire question! Whattya got? Whattya like?

There is a wrangler 265/60 R18, I use on mine, the (full size) spare still fits under the truck. I think any larger and you can't carry it underneath. ie I never use the little spare. I also add the TPS (tire pressure sensor) to the spare.

Wow! I started this thread 6 years ago...didn't think I'd still have my 2005 at this point, but man it's at 214,000 miles and I still haven't found anything I want to replace it with. Holding my breath that the "LR5" is something I'll like.

Anyhow, after that original awful set of Goodyears, a set or two or Pirellis and a few sets of Michilins (by far, best of the three) I finally secured a set of NOKIANS!!!

Just so happened that the price was right at the time I needed them...for the same price as a set of Dueler H/Ls I was able to get the NOKIAN WRG3 SUVs ordered and I'm looking forward to the change.

I almost bought a cheaper set of General Grabbers that I heard good things about, but upon investigation I read a lot of reviews I didn't like and the manufacturer doesn't recommend you keep them on for any winter driving beyond light snow.

Looking forward to a new set of tires that I've only read about! So, thanks for 6 years of tips!

I love my Nokians (Hakkas) on the 19s. They did amazingly well in NW snow and on the way back from the Yukon Territory. I have MT/Rs on my 18s and they are badass. I had Michelin Synchrones on my 19s before the Nokes and they were great for wear, not great for rain/snow traction.

I have the Goodyear DuraTrac in the 19" size on our 07 HSE and love them. Was going to try the Cooper Zeon's but couldn't find anyone that could get them when I needed tires.

That's okay...Duratracs are better than Zeons, in my opinion.

The 265/60/18 Duratracs are only an SL tire, as opposed to XL. Is this a big deal for the LR3? My wife spends 90% on pavement, but we do head up north to go skiing during the winter a fair bit where there is deep snow and ice.

Our tire shop just installed new Goodyear Wrangler All Adventure tires since Silent Armor are discontinued...but this replacement doesn't bear the Winter Mountain symbol so it's not a all-weather tire, simply an M+S tire.

I asked the shop for the closest tire to the Silent Armors they were replacing.

This is a problem, because that symbol lets you run those tires on roads where chains are normally mandated by law.

Advice for replacements??

If you want a winter tire or all-season tire, look into a Nokian tire or Michelin X-Ice (I think they are called). Blizaaks are also popular and have received good reviews both on the web and by friends of mine that have run them (on their LR3).

So far, real happy with the Nokians. Nice ride. Noticeably increased breaking (over the 57,000 mile Michilins I took off...so I guess that isn't a great comparison).

Anyway, looks good, nice tread, haven't had them offroad yet.

They have more tread then the Michelins they replaced! (maybe I should define offroad for me is sand, snow, and offroad gravel trails. I'm not rock crawling.)
