I'm curious why the Land Rover workshop manual would have this procedure with the following warning:

Perhaps there was an older generation of tensioner where this was required... The bottom-line is it's confusing which is why I started this post; I'm trying to leave breadcrumbs for others!

I think that's if you're reusing the old tensioner.
Which no one does.

I did hear the loud pop; I'm still pondering this whole part of the procedure... If you re-use tensioners then you're highly unlikely to have grenade pins so I still wonder why the manual would detail this step... It's saying to remove the grenade pins and then re-tension the tensioners; it reads more like they're assuming you have new tensioners.

Anyway - It's weird but I suspect I'll never get to the bottom of it. Mine are brand new, made a pop and seem to be functioning.

Does anyone have an engine date or code or number as to when the updated tensioners with steel buttons were placed into production?
