Tailgate open error

Hi all, first time here .. unfortunately

I have a 2015 LR4 and have been having intermittent problems with the tailgate.

It opens and closes fine, however I get random “tailgate open” warnings. If the car is locked it makes the alarm go off. If it’s unlocked, it makes the interior lights go off and on repeatedly and drains the battery.

I’ve tried opening and closing the tailgate about a billion times to no avail. I’m sure the dealer repair would be steep (took it there for the first oil change and they wanted $200 to change the cabin air filter) so I’m hoping g to fix it myself if possible.

Any suggestions??

Could be a bad pin switch in the upper tailgate latch.

Thank you! I’ve seen lots of threads on tailgate issues, but they seem to all involve issues with the latching mechanism.

So is that pin switch located in the latch mechanism in the lower gate? I checked out the upper gate and all I found was the hook that engages the lower latch mechanism. ‍
