Yes, you're right, the LRs are mostly built by humans the old way and not totally by robots. Saab and Volvo still make their cars this way - half human, half robot. I'm sure more robotics would help with QC though.

I ran across this video the other night and was blown away by it. Skynet all the way! But it also disappionted me, because no "spirit" or love is being applied to the making of these cars anymore... maybe that's why their so steril and souless.

Anyway, check out this video it's pretty amazing. I'm glad LR and a few other companies have a more human touch - and if they do add more robotics, I hope not to this level. I think the only person who touches a BMW during manufacturing is the guy who puts the badge on it. Pretty sad.

I am in the same boat!

Oh my gosh Cogo... I could have totally written your post! I am in the exact same predicament as you and have been considering the LR4 for some time now. I am also condsidering the White Diamond LTZ Tahoe too and I am scared to death about reliability issues I keep hearing about, even thought I am in love with this car. I have 3 kids, 2 in car seats and the size seems perfect. The dealership is about 75 miles away which is a bummer but they assure me they will pick up and drop of my car for me with a loaner whenever I need service. I am just so in love with the LR4 and I work from home so I wont be even doing a lot of driving, but I dont want to make a bad decision with such an expensive car. The people who love their LR4s seem to REALLY love them. I would be getting the HSE and not the lux so hopefully I wouldnt have the camera issue. This forum is BY FAR the best one out there and all of the responses here have been soo unbelieveably helpful to me and I thank each of you. I have always dreamed of having a Land Rover and when I saw the new LR4 and read the reviews, I got so psyched.

So I welcome any more personal testimonies and I have to ask Cogo since you are my twin in this experience, what have you decided?

Thanks again :)

UGAgirl,

I previously responded to this post, but I just wanted to add that I'm also a mom with 3 kids, 2 of which are still in carseats. I frequently carpool too. It works really well for a family with the exception of usable rear cup holders - but I like that, as there can then be no food/drink in my new car!

My husband has had his Tahoe for about 9 years...it's a great car. It has never broken down. Comfy and roomy. But it is HUGE and not nimble or very fun to drive or look at really! My husband doesn't care about cars (he's a finance guy and had big issues with the reliability repuation/cost of ownership) - and he is now in LOVE with my LR4.

My dealer has done everything they can to make it easy for me. Including today when I took it in to have the rear seat entertainment system installed...they gave my son a toy diecast replica, they also took him for a ride on the test track / rock wall and they offered me any car on the lot I wanted to drive...literally ANY car. I took a RR as I thought it would be fun to drive for the weekend.

I am certain I made the right choice, nothing is perfect but the LR4 comes pretty close.

My friend's good friends work for Land Rover...one in Service check-in and one is a Land Rover mechanic. I asked her to talk to them for me and they both said emphatically DO NOT BUY A LAND ROVER! They said they are always in the shop and they are so much more expensive to fix out of warranty. I was so so bummed and disappointed and although I know they ONLY see the cars with issues, I was still really bummed to hear that. He said I will definitely fall in love with it if I test drive it, but to buy the Tahoe instead for a more reliable car. You guys/gals act like Land Rovers are made of glass! Give me a break already.

Man, what a bunch of nervous nillys - buy a Honda and move on already.

BTW, whoever those Land Rover employees are... who said that... should be fired! Seriously.

Thank you so much for your reply. That was hugely helpful in my decision. I laughed outloud when I read about your husband. Are you sure you weren't referring to my husband??? He is soo not a car person (and I REALLY am) and reliability is his main concern here too. I called Chevy about the Tahoe to see if they can put a bench seat in the second row and he said they can't in the LTZ...even special order. That is a deal breaker b/c that would mean there would be no seat for my oldest on trips when we need to remove the lack row of seats for cargo room. So, my decision is between the LR4 and the massive Suburban LTZ I guess. Your information was so appreciated. Thank you!

And as to Laszlo...nothing like joining a new forum and getting called a name after my first post. You sound like a delightful person. I do have EVERY reason to be concerned and fully educated on my decision when I am about to drop 60K on a car that I want and my husband has reservations about. B/C if it turns out to be a lemon, then I will never ever live that down. Maybe breaking down on the side of the road on your way to work wont cramp your style, but with 3 kids in tow, it would be a really crappy day considering the nearest dealership is 75 miles away. I hope the rest of your day is as delightful as you are sir.

You're so lucky to be loaned a RR. Please do report!

I love the RR and want an Fuji White HSE (not supercharged or anything else), just a base RR, White HSE non-Lux. Yummy! I just need to convince my wife to take on the LR4 full-time and dump her BMW (which btw is a fantasic car, but no Land Rover!) I just hope Harriet doesn't get jealous and starts doing crazy stuff (that's my LR4's name.)

PS - About the rear cup holders, I also like not having them, having a 22-month-old Son who loves throwing Cheerios everywhere! I get home sometimes and find them in my hair. I don't even want to think what he'll do when he's old enough to have drinkies in the car. And my wife is mess-city as well... and likes to sit in the back behind the tinted glass... she thinks she's a rock star or something.

nervous nilly isn't so bad of a name.....Laszlo is usually a very helpful forum poster, and he makes a good point as usual......if you are so anxious about reliability issue of the lr4 then really honda might be a better choice......in all honesty happy lr4 owners often get a little tired of people harping on the reliability issue.....just try and see it from the already lr4 owner perspective.....

the likelyhood of a roadside stranding failure for the lr4 is actually very unlikely....the likelyhood that some minor issue will come up that requires a trip to the service department will probably happen at some point.......if your gonna get all wound up over an occasional trip for service due to a sensor or software issue then don't get one, but if you can tolerate this then then you would probably be a very happy owner.....mine is now 2 weeks in service for a engine issue, and it is getting old, but i have a new lr4 as a loaner, so it is tolerable....

3 kids and all their stuff, that extra room in the suburban would be really nice.....for a soccer mom kid hauler it seems all the lr4 offroad capability is a waste.......the ford expedition can individually fold flat each 3rd row seat with the push of a button......and it comes in a el version for a suburban size.....the ford most likely has elements of landrover and volvo engineering......

don't become victim of paralysis by analysis !!

Do it

I looked at new suv's for nearly 5 months and had settled on the Mercedes gl450. Then I drove the lr4. I was sold on it after the drive, the features, the storage and 7 passeenger seating....and the off roading capabilities.

I have only had it for 1 week but it is an amazing vehcle. Nothing quite like it.
