Noticed on my LR3 recently. On every other LR3 I have seen so far, the pipes look ok and almost shiny. Talked to the service and they said that maybe its because i drove cross country and that it won't be covered under warranty. Other LR3s on their lot and my loaner v6 doesn't have this rusting thing. The truck is only 6 months old. Great.

That's a load of crap. A rusty pipe is the result of off-roading? I thought that's what our trucks are built for. A little water or mud should not cause this. I would find another dealer or complaint to LRNA about this.

Plus Driving accross the country (as long as its still the U.S) should not void a warranty. There usually is a statement about it being valid in 48 or all 50 states.

Yup, that's BS.

I've taken mine on the beach several times (i.e. sand and salt) in addition to living in an area that salts the roads in the winter. Pipes aren't rusted yet after 13 months of ownership.

And I haven't even gone offroad on my LR3, not even once. Cross Country drive was all dry, no rain or wet weather at all. And the truck is only 6 months old. I wonder what would be the reason for the rusting to begin already, like if something like coating or something wasn't done right at the factory or dealer...

This is a totally different issue and car so just FYI. Of all of the VW Tourags that I see on the road, looking from the back, I have yet to find one without rust on their muffler. I hope LR has more know-hows to fix this rust issue than VW.

I would have to double check but I believe the exhaust system is SS. Why would they design an off road car w/o SS.

You need to talk to someone else and mention that the exhaust system is SS and therefore should be warrantied for life, but I would double check.

Also if you get into an accident and the service writer tries to prorate your exhaust remind them that it is SS and life time warranted (if this is true).

This happened on a 1987 Audi GT I had a long, long time ago. I got a new exhaust for free. In fact, all of my cars since them have had SS exhaust systems.

I don't think it's rust, it's more like a patina from the heat. Mine is a nice dull red color now also. But not rusty. Mine won't last long enough to get rusty, it's getting the crap beat out of it being so low and vunerable.
