Rhino / ox hitch option

Got this today. Two reasons. One is that it mounts the hitch higher so you don’t drag the quick release through the dirt or rocks when rowing at angles ( my steep driveway does not accommodate a hitch mount bike rack down low and my off-road camping trailer hitch does hit the dirt when articulated on the low hitch). Two is that there is a sizable increase in tongue weight.

Definitely a huge upgrade and looks better than the stock hitch. Be prepared to touch up the powder coating on the bolts. Some cracked off while tightening and the bolts slightly rusted. Also, if you intend to cut the shackle cover and reinstall, the templates were reversed. Cut the larger template first and try to install that half. If it's too big, flip the smaller template and use it. The center bushing was a little bit loose too so I just tapped in the larger RR bushing. Maybe mine were mislabeled

Welcome to the Rhino hitch fam. You will love the way it works for you and even the looks on your rear bumper are good for style points. I just used mine this morning with my heavy Thule 2-bike tray system carrier.

The one and only issue I've had with it is seasonal. Sometimes after long periods between uses, the cotter pin will bind up in the larger retracting pin. Last night I had to hit it with penetrating oil, tug and twist it with gloves on, and finally used a nail to tap it out from below. I should probably just remove and stow that pin/cable/cotter pin assembly in the off-season.

I did my own measurements on the plastic hitch cover before trimming it to fit around the Rhino. I wanted it nice and tight. Now I can just remove the left side to expose the trailer connections when needed. The template got things close but not perfect for me.

Also, in order to use a Land Rover logo'd hitch plug I got from RoversNorth, I had to Dremel out a notch in the plug but that was easy.

If memory serves, there was an issue with those bushings being reverse labeled in the early batches (one for LR3, one for LR4) as you encountered. As you found it was easy to determine which one fit snugly. Big fan of the Rhino hitch.

I have one as well that I bought back in 2016. It has worked better that the curt the 4 had on it before that. The only thing i have noticed besides the crappy powder coating as mentioned before is that you do need to check the torque on the mounting bolts once a season. At the end of camping season last year i noticed a little play in the mounting bolts and re torqued as needed. No other issues and it has been great for towing my RV and bike mount.

Nice install. I do the same thing with the integrated pin but hadn't thought to tape it off for protection.

That's a beefy hitch lock. My Thule uses a different security approach but I need something like this when towing a trailer.

How did the trimming of the cover go or have you done that yet?
