How do you know (other than having the dealer check them) if they need to be replaced?

It might seem early, but based on my short following of the forum this a common problem in the LR3.

Honestly, nothing is ever to early to fail on a LR. Read some of the the other forums and you'll see failures at all different miles. Just "luck" I guess.

Early LR3's had issues with steering knock. LR issued a new steering rack wich dampened the noises and clunk on the steering wheel. The front arb bushes also fail early, along with the front ball joints. LR issued a new front lower ball joint. If you have clunking in the front end, your issue could be 1 of the 3 listed above or all. My arb bushes and rack were replaced under warranty at 23,000 miles.
