I have a 2006 LR3 SE V8 with 49500 miles. About 2000 miles ago I started to receieve "HDC FAults". They would go away with a re-start and the dealership didn't find anything when I brought it in. However, they returned and occured with regularity. In addition to the fault the truck would lower to access mode regardless of speed. The dealership said to restart the truck comparing it to Ctrl Alt Dlte on a computer. It did not go away, the frequency continued to increase with additional faults occuring that included transmission, break, special programs etc. Additionally, the amber engine light would come on as well. I have brought the truck back to the dealer and they have been working to resolve the situation. My issue is that in over two weeks, they have been unable to fix it. The first solution was a system reset and battery change, then they changed the ABS ECU...still more faults. The service manager said he has only seen this once before and was planning to call LRNA for an engineer.

My question is this...has anybody experienced this before? How was it resolved. I am afraid that the truck has become a problem that can not be resolved.

thx

HDC and other faults are a symptom of a low battery. If the dealer replaced your battery and did not reflash the memory completely - eliminating the history of the previous faults - they can return. This happened to me even after my dealer swapped my battery for a new one. I drove off the dealer lot and I got every warning possible. Technician went into the computer system and cleared everything. I've not had any issues since. I'd have them do the above procedure and see if that solves it. I had the same HDC and related faults as you described.

I've had this happen to me after a wheeling trip. my car fixed its self after I let idle for a couple hours and about 24 key cycles. the faults have not returned. Dealler services tried to tell me it was caused by the diameter of the Cooper Zeons on the 18"OE Rims. I laughed and the dealer never brought it up agian. Not like I'm running 22" blingers. At any rate the issue has not returned. I would also be interested if the only cause was a low battery? I doubt the battery caused mine as I had it replaced about a month prior with no issues.

Dealers will generally say that the problem was something you did.

I think you need to do a hard boot. The way I did this last week was to disconnect both battery cables and zip tie them together for 10 minutes (the service manager said to "hold them together" which was a really awkward position to be in for 10 minutes, the zip tie was easy). When I cut the zip tie and reconnected the battery everything was jake.

Either you misunderstood, or the service manager needs to re-read the hard boot / reset procedure. Turn off the ignition and remove the key from the ignition, wait two minutes (as indicated on the sticker next to the battery.) Disconnect both terminals from the battery. Wait 10 minutes. Touch the two terminals together. Reconnect the battery. In addition to resetting the electronics, this procedure also clears engine adaptions - but not the adaptive transmission adaptions, unfortunately. Those need to be cleared via diagnostic software.

The PDF...is it different than what you have posted above? This is interesting stuff, Umberto.

Umberto,
Good to know that they don't expect you to stand bent over for 10 minutes. The way I did it worked, so they apparently have some leeway in the process.
