LR4 Halogen Bulb Upgrading - Highly Recommended

Can anyone point me to the link of the video that shows you how to change the bulbs. I thought it was somewhere in this thread but I can't find it.

Bulbs come in mail today so I need to educate myself on how to switch the bulbs.

Hello LR4Buckeye,

I will tell you, however, it's a lot easier in the LR4 and a little different. For the most part it is the same, but you will see there are only 4 top clips holding the grill in place. You unclip those and then have to give the bottom some even firm pressure to get the grill out. Once the grill is out, you can then see where the clips are that hold the lights in place. I recommend having a screw driver (through a cloth) to shimmy them up if needed, or they may pull up just fine. Once they are up, you will need to line up the holes and the light unit pops out easily.

The big difference between the LR3 and LR4 is that there are no metal clips holding the bulbs in place, as they just fit in and turn to lock. It's a LOT easier!

Oh, and if you are replacing the fogs, look back through this thread and you will find other tips and techniques that me and others have posted... So, read through this thread for all the information you will ever need!

I am happy to help! I know this forum was awesome in providing input when I changed out my lows, fogs, and high beams a few weeks ago. It's the BEST upgrade for the LR4 (for those without the HID factory lights). Take some pics for us!

Ok so I got the bulbs in the mail today, I'm a little dissapionted because one of the bulbs in one of the H11 boxes came loose and rolled all over the other one while being in transit. I opened up the box and both bulbs have some scratches on them, one of the blue tips has a few chips.

I know bulbs, chips, scratches and touching them can cause them to prematurely burn out. So I'm pretty sure im going to return/exchange these for new ones, or am I being crazy?

That sucks! I'm so sorry to hear about the bulbs. I would definitely return them for new ones, as they should absolutely not be scratched and chipped. Since the other bulbs are OK, you could do the lows and highs and then do the fogs later.

Also, to add. Do NOT touch the bulb surface as shown in the video. Oils from your hands / fingers can damage the bulb and shorten it's life span. Wear clean cotton gloves when you get to the step on handling the bulbs. Because the headlight assembly completly comes out, I simply brought it in side the house and worked on it on the island in the kitchen. It was much easier that way and you greatly reduce the risk of dropping the VERY expensive headlight and damaging it.

No. You cannot access the fogs from the top or engine compartment. I think that is what you are asking. The fogs are entirely different than the headlights. You remove the decorative piece (on the bumper around the fogs) by pulling out on it and then you remove three screws which will loosen the fogs and free them up. You then unplug the fog light and change the bulb, place the screws back in, in the same order in which you took them out. The manual has a good description of how to do it.
