So now I went to the dealer to get the key reprogram for my car but the dealer is telling me that they cannot do it unless the key is for my car. something about not been able to get to the program because they dont have the code#....

Can someone help me so that I may enlight them as to how its done???

You can't make a used key work on a different LR3 (how did a used key have a blank blade, anyway?), you can only enable or disable it for the specific car it was issued for originally. During manufacturing back in the UK, a unique identification code provided by the EEPROM transponder in the key head is programmed in each car's central junction box (the CJB has 30 programmable "slots" for keys, to allow for extra and replacement keys.) Once programmed, the car will only respond to that specific ID code, checked each time you slide the key in the ignition. Replacement keys with EEPROM chips programmed to match the info stored into your car's CJB can only be issued at the factory and cannot be overwritten by the dealer. Dealers can only synchronize rolling codes via T4/IDS to enable the RF remote to work with your car, but they need a key factory-chipped for your car's VIN first, and that key can only be supplied by Land Rover directly, you can't buy it on eBay. Sorry.

morrisdl, when you get the new key configured at the dealer - it'll probably take a couple of weeks to get there from the UK - don't forget to bring ALL the existing spare keys with you (if you have more than one.) When they enable the new key on your car, any other keys not present will be disabled.

there should be a stickey on this type of stuff for new guys so they don't get taken on ebay. I lost a key and almost imediatly ordered one on ebay but checked into how I would get it cut first.

same here.

I have read in another forum that you can get a key machined that will work to open the door if you lock your expensive/official key in the vehicle. Does anyone know if that is true? I have a friend in the machining business.

Yes, that is true.

Yes, that is true.
I'll have to see if anyone around me can do that. I would much rather hide a spare FOB in the vehicle and tape a skeleton key to the frame somewhere.
