I just got my first Land Rover, '06 LR3, and love it. It has a cradle and female plug under the center console top ( I have the ice box console). The salesman said this was where to hook up an Ipod/MP3 player and use the factory controls to control it. Makes sense but I don't have a cable to connect the Ipod the console plug. I can't find one anywhere online either. The dealer told me he could only sell me the entire Ipod hook up system for $350+.

Looking for a little help here. Am I wrong that all I need is a cable? If that's all I need, anybody know where to find one considering the local dealer can't order it?

Thanks

LR makes an ipod integration socket, but thats not it. (its like this) THat connector is for a specific nokia line of phones. The ipod/mp3 connector is under a 3" panel that flips open on the back (faces the rear seats) of the center console. Odd place to put it, but it is central. The stereo has to be on AUX. You may have to press AUX more than once if you have sat radio installed. You are going to find that the volume on the AUX port is much quiter than the other radio sources. There is lots of discusion on how to fix this (just a quick search)...Welcome to the club and enjoy the ride!

Your dealer is an idiot. Like the other poster said there is an aux plug 3.5mm in the back of the center console. I have my ipod integrated in the car without the dealer option. I can also provide you with info about boosting the sound or pretty much any problems that may occur with it. But definitely use the connector on the bottom of your ipod vs the headphone out. You can find a simple cable but good one for 12-30 bucks without ground interference.

Like the other folks stated you need to use the AUX port in the back of your center console. That's what I have been using in my '07 without any issue. I don't even have any issues with a low volume coming from my iPhone. Not sure if there was a change from '06 to 07 but it works great!

I had a stereo cable I had used in my Touareg for SAT that I am using. I just ran the cable between the passenger seat and console and then placed it in the cup holder.

It's not that it's a really "low" volume; it's just lower. It doesn't bother me too bad, I don't max out the ipod volume anyway. It can be a bit annoying when you're listening to the ipod and then switch to satellite radio (or CD), because those sources are significantly louder and can startle you.

You don't get that on your 07?

Same here. I bought a 3' 3.5mm male-to-male audio cable from K-mart one day for like $5 and it works just fine.

I personally do not notice a difference in volume. Now with that said my OTHER audio source is our 21 month old son :proud: So my Audio experience may be a bit different then yours!

But yeah.. if you want to integrate it with your stereo and steering wheel controls you will need Land Rover's ipod kit. http://bputah.com/ has it for $330.

ipod jack

Hopefully someone can help me- Ive been trying to use the iPod jack in my 2008 LR2, but using a 3.5mm headphone jack cable plugged into my iphone's headphone jack only produces the music track portion of the songs.. The vocal tracks arent coming thru.. I just took it in this morning to have the jack replaced and it still does it. I dont see how i could be doing something wrong with this.. any thoughts?

Thanks

Hey there. I did a really good install for mine. Scroll down a but you'll see my post. http://bit.ly/9u3Gap

If you want the easy way out, get this, plug it in behind the console where the 12v plug is, and run a male to male headphone cable from the ipod charger to the aux in hole.

Ipod charger with output:
-Picture of iPod Cable
-Link to Buy

And the male to male headphone cable (which can be found anywhere, radioshack, bestbuy, etc):
- headphonecable

OR buy them cheaper together:
- together

I would first look at replacing the cable. Its a cheap and quick fix...if it doesn't solve it, return the cable. I always suggest using a cable that actually connects on the bottom of the ipod rather than the headphone output, but that's also because I like to play it loud and get good bass along with the videos I play. You can find a cable like others have mentioned that will provide the output to your lr2 jack and charge the ipod at the same time using the light plug right next to it. 20 bucks at stores.
