I have seen the IIDTool mentioned a number of times on this forum and others. And looking at one of the active threads on tires I saw where someone apparently increased the height of his LR4 using one of these tools to make sure the tires clear or to alter the height of the front relative to the rear.

Is that for real? Can you really use a tool like this to customize your vehicle? What does it do to the warranty? What are the risks? Is it recommended?

It seems really cool but I am not one to jailbreak my iPhone and would want to make sure I'm not breaking something. Given how many appear to be using these tools then I would expect that if you use common sense you can use them safely?

What are some of the things people do with them?

(From what I could tell on their website I would go with the BT version and use my iPhone as the interface.)

One nice thing about both IIDTool and EASControl modules is that they take a "photo" of your original EAS calibration numbers and unmodified CCF (Car Config. File) and save these files in their non-erasable memory. So, you will always be able to go back to bone stock settings even after modifying suspensions height and CCF extensively, should you be concerned about warranty issues possibly popping up prior to paying your dealer a visit.

I use my IIDTool to clear intermittent faults and check for internal faults that may not generate a warning light, modify suspensions height (you can save your own settings in an additional 3 memory "slots" within the module), enable the digital mph speedo in the instrument cluster, disable TPMS when I go off-roading, reset the Battery Management System when I replace my own battery, reset the Service Interval Indicator after I do my own oil and filter change, and with an upcoming update I'll enable "all windows close" with the remote - they only open in North America currently... Lots of things you can do, and the guys behind the product are constantly adding features. Especially if you plan on holding on to your LR4 after the warranty is up, but even before that time if you will be off-roading far away from civilization for example, these tools can pay for themselves with just one use.

I completely agree with Umberto. It's a great little tool, but the idea is that you do not need to go playing with it and changing settings. I use it to raise my suspension a bit while off-roading, have turned on/off TPMS (this required rewriting the CCF), and others. I have the BT one and it's very cool. You only plug it in when you need it, so I would imagine the dealer will never know.

I did most of the same things than Umberto and David.

Leveled my truck (more or less) and increased the overall ride height.
Updated my instrument cluster to the 2012 and newer version (mine is a 2010).
Enabled the digital speedo
Tried to enable navigation on the move but it still is something they need to work on.
Changed my audio settings
Enabled the DRLs (Canadian version).
Enabled the global close but I haven't tried it yet.
And many others that I already forgot about

It's a fun tool as you can stand outside the vehicle and raise it up down, front back... Simply playing with your phone app.

Also, I've reflashed my ECU and killed the truck (no cluster info, no engine but the radio worked). With extensive emails with Patrick, the truck came back to life about an hour later. This is all my fault and as nothing to do with the tool itself, however it just shows that you need to be attentive to what you do.

As a side note, I've personally met with Patrick from Gap Diagnostic in Montreal and he is a very personable and nice person. Their customer service is second to none so far. I highly recommend them.

It's one of the features of the tool either under ECU flash or in the CCF instrument cluster upgrade. it's mainly visual, see photo (courtesy of Gap-Diagnostic).

Does the nav and radio pop up in the screen? Or is it just contrast change.

Dan you made the comment you had to jailbreak your iPhone.

Can anyone comment on this? Is the app not in the App Store?

Sorry. I was not referring to this app specifically. I simply don't know enough about the IIDTool and was concerned that using it on a vehicle would be akin to jail breaking a smartphone.
