On the highway I've always had a wind noise coming from the drivers side windshield pillar when there is a cross-wind and today I thought to investigate since I'm taking the LR4 out of state for the first time to overland in the wild Utah mountains!

I found this thread https://www.landroverworld.org/threads/windshield-wind-noise.44328/#post-238293 that suggests the clips are bad and to buy clips from Amazon, but I'm not confident I could remove the pillar, put it back together with Amazon parts and expect everything to work out just fine. Are there better quality clips for it or are they all the same and do I even need them?

I created a video to show movement with the pillar when pushing on it and to show an alignment issue on the drivers side where at the bottom near the fender the gap to the door is noticeably is smaller in that area vs up top of the door. The passenger side doesn't have that gap differentiation. Does it seem like my pillar is put on wrong and is it OK to have slight movement when pushing down on it?

I bought a LR4 clip kit from Amazon (for not just the pillars) and that’s how both of mine are held in. No noise.

Has your windshield ever been replaced?

I got my windshield replaced semi recently and the guy told me you need to lay a thick/tall bead of the urethane sealant so the glass sits nice and tall, to push against the a pillar trim.

They also swear by using only OEM windshield clips.

Yes. Used someone the indy shop recommended and he did a **** job. He broke almost all the clips and used the windshield sealant instead of getting new ones.

Cleaned it all up and reinstalled with the Amazon clips. No issues, that was about 1000 mile ago.

Well, that situation you have is just not right.

Yes, my windscreen was replaced before I purchased mine…
What’s worse, they would actually flap at highway speed.
When I chose to replace them I learned the the original pillar covers were missing clips, the rubber fitting on a few clips, and even a cracked mount for some clips.

My advice, pop them off, working gently from the lower end to the upper end, and inspect. If you need new pillar covers, they come complete with all the clips.

I'm not sure. All the windows have the Land Rover brand on them except the windshield. It has Pilkington but all the others have Pilkington brand too.

Always OEM clips and don't reuse. I am on the 5th windshield and have used them all; Pilk, Fuyao, PGW, St Gobain. So far the Fuyao has held up best but could be just luck.

If it's missing the Land Rover logo it has probably been replaced. The window with the vin in it doesn't exactly look perfectly lined up either.
Maybe that is why the pillar cover is not sitting right.
