Extended Warranty

Hi All:

My 2005 LR3's warranty is due to expired in June 2009 and I am considering getting the extended warranty on the car. I have 34,000 miles now and I was told the extended warranty is pretty pricey ranging from $3500 - $7000 for 3 yrs or 50,000 miles and the cost varies due to the provider. I was told that there are two provider one is Land Rover and the other is General Motor. I wonder what you guys would recommend? Thanks in advance for your help.

Do a search here for Ford ESP. Theirs seems to be the best price, haven't needed to use it yet so can't comment on that aspect.

I purchased a Ford ESP warranty about a month ago. Havnet used it yet, but they seem to have the best pricing and coverage.

DON'T BOTHER READING - I JUST BOUGHT A FORD ESP FOR $3,115 (7 year 100K)

Has anyone heard of Preferred Warranty, Inc.? The dealer that I purchased my 06 LR3 HSE is offering an 84 month 100K warranty for $3,800. From what I can tell this is an "inclusive form" where the items listed on the brochure are covered...those not listed are not. I tried to get them to specifically respond to the adjustable suspension components, but the customer service woman only repeated the list of covered suspension items...

You probably want to look elsewhere if it's an "inclusive" plan. Typically you'll have more covered with the "exclusive" plan since excluded items need to be part of the plan.

Check out the Ford ESP plan reference by roverman above - it seems quite popular (I don't have one, and may just go without (crickets chirping, I'm sure))....

I'm with gtc on this one. Currently out of warranty and did not buy extended.

If I spend more than $3-4K on repairs in the next 24 months, then I'll eat some crow.

But I'm fairly sure that these warranty companies are in business to make a profit, and they do that by taking in more than they spend.

I have a similar situation to rtsang except I am in Canada. With 3 yellow lights on the dashboard, and warranty expiring i am looking for "reasonable" extended warranty offered in Canada. My LR dealer is asking $5,000 (and that is after discounts) for EasyCare 100,000KM pkg with $100 deductible. Does anyone know of better alternatives for a Canadian extended warranty. Any help would be much appreciated

7 yrs / 100,000 miles / $100 deduct. $2,920 - $180 = $2,740 final price.
7 yrs / 75,000 miles / $100 deduct. $2,640 - $180 = $2,460 final price.

6 yrs / 100,000 miles / $100 deduct. $2,635 - $180 = $2,455 final price.
6 yrs / 75,000 miles / $100 deduct. $2,000 - $180 = $1,820 final price.

The plans use the manufacturer new vehicle warranty start date and zero
miles as the beginning point

Hi LR3_fan - I'm in Canada and have found the same thing with the Canadian dealers - very high prices; for what it's worth I was quote $5300 with no discounts from the local LR shop.

When I transferred our warranty from our previous LR to the new owner ($80 charge BTW!), I was speaking with folks from EasyCare (who administer the LR Assured/Exclusionary warranty in Canada) and they suggested that I simply buy the US equivalent - the rep I was speaking with said there was no restrictions on the warranty and no problem with Canadians buying the warranty in the US and using it at Canadian LR dealerships. I never really followed up, but it might be an option (not so promising withe 80% exchange rate right now).

What you could try is going for the CPO rate for the LR Assured/Exclusionary warranty in Canada; the dealer initially quoted me $3500 CAD for 7 years/160k kms from the initial in service date. I tried to buy it, but the guy quickly figured out that he "couldn't" sell it since it had to be offered at the time of purchase on a CPO... might be worth a shot, though....
