Codes and no start

I put in an aftermarket fuel pump and ever since it turns over and may start and may not. My diagnosis was the Beck Arnley pump wasn't holding pressure to the rail but I'm second guessing that because sometimes I can turn the key and I hear the fuel pump running and sometimes not. I'm going to go through the manual one more time to see what might be going on. I don't have a shreader valve in the fuel rail to check pressure.

If it's a frequent thing, put a spark tester on it. Or pull a plug wire when it's being moody and rule out a no spark issue. If you've always got spark, it's going to point you back to that pump.

SO it was a faulty ECM? that would be a good reason for multi spark failure across both coils.

Typically I have found most of the Discovery's up for sale cheap are electrical issues and the local mechanic has plugged one new part in after the other until the owner gets tired of paying for it and sells the rig.

Be sure to check your plug wires and coil packs because they can take out an ECM. Which may be the reason you ECM failed in the first place. You may be replacing it again if you have grounding wires of a bad coil pack doesn't hurt to ground a wire to the frame and drag the other end over the plug wires and coil packs to see if their is a spark jump. Of course do it in low light so you can see the spark jump.

No. It appears it was a $25 crank sensor.

I bought a perfect 01 Disco for 1200.00 from a soccer mom A while back, because Her mechanic couldn’t find the problem.

Same thing, a crank sensor. They get pretty hot where that are located and they fail.

I hate when searching and people don't follow up.

We're going to officially say it was just a crank sensor that caused all the misfires and no start. All is well in Roverland for now.

Ok here is the follow up that I didn't do because the crank sensor didn't fix the problem. Next step was the Mass Air Flow Sensor - I pulled it out and cleaned it and that seemed to improve the frequency of the truck actually starting so I ordered a new one and that made zero difference. So delving through obsure threads on all the forums I could find there was a reference to a similar no start condition that was related to the inertia sensor and the fuel pump relay. So I went to the local dealer and of course they didn't have a relay in stock so I bought an aftermarket for half the price and believe it or not it's started every time and it's been 6 days so I am officially considering the problem solved. Interestingly I now have started getting an intermittent suspension error that I never had before so since I was mucking around in the relay box I may replace the air suspension pump relay just as a preventive measure.
