As some of you know by now, I have a yellow lab. While I plan on buying a cargo area mat, what about the tailgate?

What do the dog owners here do? Does the tailgate get beat up? I get the feeling my dog will make his presence known. I wonder is there is a way.

Also, I bought a weathertech mat with raised edges for my old JGC and once in a while the raised edges came in handy.

How do you guys feel about that one versus the flat one?

I have the one with the raised edges, its fantastic for anything messy because it keeps it contained. The only real difference is you don't roll it up.

I actually have the cargo barrier also. (the cage as my wife calls it). If you need pictures or anything, let me know.

The plastic in the rear does scratch. Mine already has several battle scars from just having cargo back there. Im not worried about it, but if you want to keep dog claw scratches off, you will need to cover the rear and also the sides.

For our yellow lab we have the Weathertech cargo liner, that I bought from Atlantic British.

I also bought a Weathertech pet barrier from Autoanything that works great.

As for the tailgate, I cover it with a bath mat when the tailgate is open and flat. If you want to protect the inside tailgate when closed, you could probably attach the mat to the tailgate with some adhesive velcro.

I have a yellow lab, black interior, and a well-used dyson.

Rule of thumb: get your LR4´s interior to match your Lab's fur color

Haha, no kidding . . . but in my defense, I've been down this road before. Quite a ways back now I had a red GTI with black interior, and that's when we picked up our yellow lab. So I definitely know the down side of the yellow on black.

I guess the upside is that I can see the hair that I'm trying to vaccum up . . . and the black also cleans up well (mud has a much harder time staining black vs. beige).

We had a beige interior on an Audi allroad - never again. Became more of a mud color over time. Black interiors work better with yellow labs, especially on vehicles that go offroad and to the beach.

That's not my experience. My interior is caked in yellow fur in short order. Beige can tolerate a stray hair without looking gross.

I tried this out on my old JGC and it worked pretty well.
