Brake Pads

Since UMBERTOB taught me how to read an online catalogue properly, I ordered the Porterfield R4-S pads for the LR4. I have them on MY12 RRS and they are fantastic, very low dust but a slight squeal when cold (from the rears).

Interesting. I've run R4-S pads on several vehicles but don't ever recall having squeal either hot or cold. I did notice the dust level varied greatly from batch to batch, meaning pads I bought a few years apart (identical part number) sometimes had drastically different dust levels. Great pedal feel and street performance, but NOT cheap.

Side note - I've consistently had problem with squealing on ceramic pads, of various brands, on other cars. Seems to be a fairly common complaint with ceramics, particularly when they are cold (i.e., backing out of your garage / driveway in the AM).

The PO of my LR4 apparently cured this problem by having the stock wheels painted / coated black. I'm OK with that solution, lol...

Try Max brakes, been using them for over 2 years with no issues at all, very minimal brake dust (my wheels stay clean for at least 2 weeks) and absolutely no squeal, Price is also unbelievable. Order on their website and you receive it via UPS in 2 days max. The have both Ceramic and Metallic pads, I always get the ceramic. www.maxbrakes.com

What's up with their website? I went there and plugged in my LR's specs and MY and found the brake kits page, but it was basically just a brochure. There's a shopping cart feature but no "Buy now" button at all. Do they only work via phone? Odd. I couldn't even see pricing.

I had the save problem too on their website but i called them up and ordered over the phone. The front brake kit (Rotors & pads) came up to about $150.

Not a fan of ceramics either, in my experiences they trade bite and feel for light coloured dust. Part of the dusting problem (especially on the front wheels) is the high carbon steel rotors (soft). That rotor metal creates dust as well. That being said I find the stock LR setup or replacements with similar formulations to be the best tin terms of brake feel.

about to order the Porterfield pads too but can someone confirm if 2016 LR4 pads are same as 2015> LR4s?

Oh those Max brakes are cheap. There must be a significant amount of Chineseium in the Iron. Just installed Pagid pads on my LR4 - feels better than the OEM Ferodos they replaced.

Good to know. I trust Pagid from previous German cars. I'll those a shot next.

Still loving the EBC Yellow pads and drilled rotors. I drive nearly every weekend to the high sierra and back in the winter and they have been tremendous in the long downhills. Smooth and more powerful than stock. No fade.
