Has anyone done this? I am looking for some training for off road stuff. I don't have the time to get to the Land Rover school in CA and I understand it is pretty basic. This guy is in Grand Junction and I would be able to do a full day "private" lesson with him for $1K on June 15th. The training is supposedly about off road driving techniques and a fair bit of off road stuff like equipment, recovery, etc. It may be too soon for me to do all of this.

Before I commit I thought I would check with you all.

I did not do this class, but he was at one of our local Land Rover club events and gave a few demonstrations and it was awesome. It's a great course and I would highly recommend taking it - much more for your money than doing a LR Experience course. When you finally get your new LR4, a few months later you will get a free 2-hour lesson to a LR Experience school. It's fun, a little informative, but not worth the money. I have a certificate now and plan to take my dad again when he visits CA.

Bill Burke wrote the book (literally... He also has quite a few videos out there, lol) on off-roading techniques, and is knowledgeable about Land Rovers like few others. If you have the opportunity and think off-roading will definitely be in your future, do it. A grand for a full day of undivided attention from him is cheap actually. And it's never too early to learn something new, you'll be a more confident driver as a result even if you seldom off-road.

I'd echo Umbertob's comments. I participated in a few of Burke's classes when I was first learning to off road 14 years ago. They are indispensable, well worth the dollars. I have always wanted to do his New Year's trip to Moab but still have not been able to make it work.

All right. I'm convinced! BTW, though it is a private lesson they say I can include one other person. If anyone wants to travel to Grand Junction, CO an join me on June 15th let me know. Of course I won't mind if you help with the cost. ;-)
