I have just completed a cooling system update on my 2014 Land Rover LR4 . I noticed that the thermostat that I put in has a small wire coming out the bottom of it (LR Part Number LR117568). It has a wire connector which I believe is sensor functionality coming out of the bottom of this thermostat housing. As I look at the one I took out, I don’t see this wire on the old thermostat. Otherwise they are identical.
My question is do I just cap and stow this wire, or did I get the wrong thermostat. Looks like this one should fit my vehicle and it was purchased from a local Land Rover dealer so I am a bit confused.
Any insight to this would be very helpful. Thank you all for your support.

That's the wrong thermostat.

The wires are for the electronically controlled thermostat.
There's an internal heater to control the thermostat.

To answer your question. You should be ok with the one you installed.

So to clarify. The one I installed was the one with the wire. Should I just cap and stow the wire and leave it in place? The “wrong” thermostat will work in the vehicle without any issues? Thank you for your reply!

The wires go to a heater element in the t-stat housing. The heater heats up a wax pellet which closes the t-stat to make the engine run "hotter" under certain conditions.
So, with the wires not connected the t-stat would operate normally.

I haven't tested both options. So I can't say 100% you wouldn't have problems.
I don't think you would.

Update- Just spoke to the Land Rover dealer. They confirmed it is the wrong thermostat. They say the correct thermostat should be a LR035124. They say not to use it (of course the dealer will take the politically correct route for limited liability..)
Now the question is do I just go with it or change it and install the correct one.
If it is functionally the same, should be no reason to change it. not sure what to do next..

Anyone have the LR Specs for the 2 units so I can do a technical analysis?
LR117568 vs. LR035124

Car disassembled again. Going for the correct thermostat. Too much work put into this so doing the job right. Just a FYI for the group:
The 2014 LR4 uses a different thermostat than the 2015 and 2016. The 2015/ 2016 have an electronic sensor that’s used in the thermostat where the 2014 vehicles do not use this functionality.

Project is complete. Was a long, difficult, and at times.. painful project, but it is complete and the car is running GREAT!
Post debrief notes on the Thermostat. I did notice after getting the correct one that it is a bit physically different than the original one I had. Seems the angle of the mount is different even though the rest of the thermostat is almost identical. So the bottom line is ALWAYS use the correct part.. shortcuts often turn into bad decisions on Land Rovers.. My 2 cents.
Want to shout out to "txfromwi". His Cooling system update video on his 2016 LR4 helped me A LOT. If you are considering doing a Cooling update on a D4, I highly recommend you watch his video- its long but HIGHLY worth it! I was prepared for most of the Mechanical battles because of his dialogue and helpful tips. Thank you!
So for now my 2014 D4 is Golden again, and all is right with the world! Fingers crossed for the future!
