I think it's time to move on...

Defender the answer? It bested the GX according to MT. Up here a proper 110 defender is about $15k cdn more than the GX. Dealer lots are full of Defenders while the GX has a three year waiting list. Go figure...

I think it's time to move on...

Yeah I am not looking to rock crawl. These days I do all my hard off-road on dirt bikes or ************ dual sports. That being said I do appreciate the LR4s capabilities and it's been good in the winter up here. Money no object I would be looking at an Escalade V. Who can say no to 680 HP...

I think it's time to move on...

A few more: Lexus GX550, GMC Yukon AT4, Ineos Grenadier. All new so much more expensive than tossing in a rebuilt engine into the LR4. Why not try to diesel "upgrade" while you are at it?

    Colder plugs...worse mileage?

FWIW all the NGKs I have installed in the last 10 years were gapped appropriately out of the package so I think ou are fine. The 80 MPH cruising? Yeah that's the culprit. It's a box...

    Colder plugs...worse mileage?

You bring up a good point although it is quite hard to use the wrong plug with NGKs since there is only one spec'd. To the OP: Did you check the gaps before installing? Generally they are fine but...

    those do look good.

    Colder plugs...worse mileage?

What year LR4? My originals in the 2010 were NGK 6C10 and the replacements were 7C10. At some point in 2011 LR started using 7C10s. I thought 6C10s were NLA? Poking around I can see NGK discontinued the 6C10s and replaced with 7C10s. You either bought old stock (possible) OR you may have...

    Check engine light on

An orange warning is nothing. If it flashes red then you need to pay attention. I bet half the Land Rover products tooling around have an orange warning light on.

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

Ok first it's Mobil not Mobile, that's a place in Alabama. :) Second. You bought used at 90k miles so do you know the history before that? Third. If you changed at 5k miles both oil and filter then you have done all you could other than perhaps using a thicker viscosity oil. To beat a dead...

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

Easy. This engine was designed over 20 years ago. The specifications that were reccomend are old history. The only novel about the 5.0L was the use of 5W-20 (which was much more rare 15 years ago when the LR$ debuted and the 925 FORD spec which related to 5W-20 and long oil change intervals...

New strange noise from transmission (?)

Since it is already at the mechanics I would suggest pouring a couple ounces of a nice single malt and try to put it out of your mind until they call you. No sense ruining your weekend and welcome to Land Rover life. Is this a toy or a daily?

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

"synthetic" is cheap these days (Costco through warren distributing for instance) so no need not to use it. Mobil 1 EP used to mention Ford 925 about a decade back but that was dropped. The 925 spec is obsolete and is related to long life intervals (LR 24k km/ 16k mile OCI) , something you don't...

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

How much credit for the old oil do you get? The kit itself is $110 each time correct?

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

Mobil... The Liqui Moly is likely ok as well. The 5.0L is not high tech and is naturally aspirated, your biggest enemy is fuel dilution from the DI. Whatever you use don't extend intervals and use a proper grade and all will be good. Up here Red line is more than double ($21/L) the cost of...

Replace the engine but plan to plow 4k per year into it to keep it on the road from here on in.

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

Magic euro oil from a jurisdiction that hates hydrocarbons. Why not just Mobil EP high mileage 5W-20? Not fancy enough? :0

    OEM Waterpump vs British Atlanta/ProFlow

You will be lucky if they supply parts at all 8 years out (11 years on the V8s). Many parts become NLA at less time than this. No money in in keeping old stuff on the road..

    OEM Waterpump vs British Atlanta/ProFlow

Why would LR give 2 poops about crossovers in a vehicle it last sold 8 years ago? They are not going to put time or effort into addressing it. You are on your own my friend.

So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye

You just described a GX. It may have been in a low spec one but there was a lot of plastic. The windshield was small with thick A pillars so big vertical blind spots. It's hard to describe but the old GX interior while dated felt more premium. The rear hatch with the seperate moving glass felt...

So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye

Interesting. I had planned for a Lexus GX550 to replace the LR4 but was kind of under whelmed when I saw one in the flesh. I was also considering a Landcruiser. Have not driven either. At the moment the vehicle appealing to me the most new is a Defender 110 but have concerns regarding the swing...

Anyone end up buying their Grenadier order

I was on the wait list for the new GX and was real disappointed about how plasticky the GX felt when I finally had the opportunity to sit in one and explore. This and the V6TT recall/stop sale has me nervous enough to pass. A nice 2019 LX570 diverted my attention. Wow, now that is a Lexus...

Anyone end up buying their Grenadier order

Maybe you will get a late flurry of bids on this at the end. I would sell my 2010 with similar mileage for about $8000 US. It has many less mods but condition wise almost flawless so perhaps the market is coming back to reality here. Lets hope it heats up.
