    The crossover pipe is relatively easy to replace. Less the car was driven extensively while overheating and the heads are warped (and even that is not possible as it will shut itself off), I don't see the logic behind replacing the engine.

    I didn’t have to tap the head bolts; however, I learned there are two different types (and part numbers) for the head bolts themselves. My original head holds were not fitting into the replacement engine block. Special order from autozone or related.

    Possibilities: Serpentine bearings- Check each for excess play/movement. A worn belt- check for tears. A defective tensioner: observe any excess movement. Failing viscous fan clutch. Get a cheap stethoscope to try to isolate source.

    Given you are losing oil likely due to combustion, worn valve stem seals are primary culprit. Second would be worn cylinder rings.

    Like mentioned above, a reliable and experienced mechanic is a must. There are quite a few components that can go wrong during assembly- such as setting the VVT phasers correctly, incorrectly setting tensioners and more. $2k is a very fair price. If a dealer will do for 3500, have them do it.

    OK, found the problem. I had the coolant temperature sensor (in rear) connected to the air manifold connector and vs. versa. Surprised the two connectors are identical to allow for such an error; regardless, lesson learned take your time reconnecting wires.

    I must say that had me worried.. it's not my first stupid mistake and thus I just checked the flexplate part number (LR010766) and verified fitment works from 2010 through 2013. The replacement flexplate came off a 2011 supercharged V8, of which it should work.

    Remove top fuel rail line. Remove the air manifold (secured by ten 10mm head bolts. You'll be able to access much easier.
