    Defender 130 an LR4 replacement?

As someone who really, really likes the new Defender and is fortunate enough to almost get whatever we want I'm driving the wheels off of this, our second 2013 LR4. To me the only drawback it sort of has is gas mileage, even there anything comparable has gas mileage just as bad. Just took a 2000...

Oil Filter top will not come off

No it was fine, thank goodness. I think some noob LR tech doesn't understand that it's not something that you torque down when you hit bottom. The tension of the O-ring keeps it from coming loose, not the stress on the threads as much. It was not cross threaded or anything. Plus, it would be...

V8 owners try this and let me know: sand mode

I was thinking it could be throttle response as well, I put a throttle controller in my JT and it "feels" faster, but you should be able to recreate the same acceleration in normal mode by flooring it off the line but you can't in the LR4. It could be that normal mode has a different final...

Oil Filter top will not come off

As an update I finally got the filter cover off. I got the engine nice and hot. I used the broken roverparts filter wrench with some sheets of paper in between the wrench and the filter for more grip. Then I used the pliers type universal oil filter wrench and pulled with all my might. (I was...

    Oil leak?

I will third the re using the drain plug and not having any issues and second the notion of having some sort of system for oil drain management as I made a huge mess the first time. Our last LR4 leaked slightly at the passenger rear valve cover gasket. My notion is that it gets cooked by heat...

    Updated sources for skid plating?

My 2 cents to keep or throw. I've been off-roading Jeeps for 20 years and I really think weight is your biggest enemy. The Jeeps with massive amounts of armor and other crap always get stuck where lighter Jeep drive right through. That, and the stock LR4 skid plate is pretty good by most skid...

    Brake pedal cover

Our 2013 is just a molded piece of plastic, no cover. Pretty sure our last one was the same.

V8 owners try this and let me know: sand mode

It has been a horrible winter in the NE and the heavy LR4 has been our friend through all of it. I noticed snow mode is not right for all types of snow. Sometimes you need to get going in deep cold snow and sand mode would always do the trick as it uses more power and lets the wheels spin more...

    Ultimate Towing Thread

Towed my Jeep TJ to a Jeep event last year. Jeep is about 3900# and the trailer is a little over 2k, so call it 6,000# Going and stopping were great. Handling is better with a longer truck. I got some sway in the setup initially but I moved the Jeep forward another two inches and it went away...

Does the vehicle stay in off-road height when turned off?

Yeah, I would not trust it with my life. We have had two 2013's and this most recent one likes to "dance" more often than the last one. Just seemingly randomly adjusting itself like cperez said.

Anyone know a reasonable dealer for timing chains 2011 LR4?

I would seriously look at an indy shop that has done tons of them. The dealerships are having trouble with labor and they are all very inexperienced. At least around here in Philly. The guys at East Coast Rover in Rockland probably don't do timing chains (they specialize in awesome restorations...

    Maximum elevation

Mine just did this in the plow snow at the end of the driveway, kind of freaky when it starts selecting it's own height: "Ahhh, you are too low."

Oil Filter top will not come off

Tried a search. Last oil change was by dealer, the first one since I bought this one used at 65k. I suspect either they overtightened it, or it was too tight and they said to hell with it. It broke the oil filter wrench from Atlantic British it is on there so tight. Tried a universal grabby...

    '13 LR4 Pending Purchase

If you maintained that 04 bmw for 100k miles you can do anything on this truck. Do a lot of reading on here about the 13s. We had plenty of warning on our 13 water pump and there are some things you can do to keep an eye on the chain tensioners. Have fun, enjoy the new truck!

    Well crap!

More than I was asking for! Thanks for the link and all the other good info. I didn't know if anyone use a service manual or whatnot but seen enough on youtube now to feel confident, thanks!

LR4 suddenly won't start/crank. Even with fully charged battery and/or jump

It's amazing how bad batteries can cause a very wide variety of wacky symptoms in modern vehicles. It is very good to know about the starter reset.

    Well crap!

What resources did you use to do this, I'm thinking of doing it myself when it gets cooler. If you watch the Youtube Samcrac videos where he tries to get the supercharged RR sport running the 5.0 engine becomes a lot less intimidating to take apart.

2012 LR4 Whining in steering wheel (inside the cabin)

Has anyone actually had a failure of the clockspring? Our's makes this noise under some circumstances.

LR4 suddenly won't start/crank. Even with fully charged battery and/or jump

As someone who frequently overthinks things, I say this with love. You are overthinking it with the voltages, etc. There is only a battery a starter and a relay. Sounds like you eliminated the battery and the relay.

    Intake Valve Cleaning

With regard to the MAF being disconnected and running, ours would not run, or would for a while and then not, with the intake completely off. I had to bend the straw into the throttle body while holding it open a little ways. It probably depends on how confused your computer gets by getting no...

    tires for LR4

For street use we swear by the Toyo Proxes ST II. They can still be found but they were replaced by the III, which we haven't tried yet. We got caught in a few storms in them and were blown away by the wet/flooded traction.

    Intake Valve Cleaning

Seafoam spray into the throttle body made a huge difference in our 2013 LR4 with 97k or so on i . Should have done it sooner. It's kind of a pain to get the nozzle in there and you have to go slow but it was worth it.

    LR4 vs Defender

It was a serious option for us, but we opted for a lightly used 2013 LR4 because of many reasons mentioned above: interior space, engine grunt, cost difference.
