Humming sound after vehicle is turned off

Don't worry about it. It does that. Mind makes little hums and stuff regularly. Maybe it's the DMTL pump flushing out fuel vapors, who knows. The LR is pretty good at monitoring the battery and shutting things down (lights, your DC accessory, the stereo) when the battery voltage gets lower...

Tell an LR4 guy how to love that Defender rear door?

I really like the look of the 2020 Defender. A heck of a lot more than the new Discovery. Such that, when I move on from my LR4 the Defender will likely be the replacement. Not a near term decision, but eventually... I can't get over that rear door though. I know its legacy, it just seems so...

Gas smell after driving. No error codes. No visible leaks.

I don't know about the fuel filter (someone will respond) but hit all the easy options first regarding the fuel smell. Use your nose to figure out where it is the worst. See if you see any wet areas underneath that look suspicious. Lots of tips as you saw in this thread. It can be tricky to...

Avslash's Sleeping Platform - A Few More Pics Added

This is one of the coolest mods I've seen in a while. Thanks for sharing it. I can't say I'd have the patience to make this, but damn, when I go on road trips without the kids, the gear storage potential here is off the charts.

    Leather Cleaner ?

You're getting too scientific for me. I just read that as "hey, it's designed for leather, but if you overspray it won't harm anything." And they probably realize that once someone has a rag and a spray bottle, they'll wipe whatever they can. Use more product. Buy more product. :) I've bought...

Any Dash Cams you particularly like for being inconspicuous / ease of install?

Good point, thanks. Yes, those small town rapid drops from highway speeds down to 35 are the absolutely worst, and 50% of the time there is a local patrol sitting there just waiting for everyone who gets caught by the un-anticipated drop.

    Leather Cleaner ?

I absolutely love this stuff from Finish First. I got it on a lark one time because I use their polish. It really leaves the LR seats nice and soft. No oil. With regards to cleaning, I would say it is more of a light cleaner. With some rubbing I am able to get most things off that would get on...

Any Dash Cams you particularly like for being inconspicuous / ease of install?

Off topic, but just curious... are radar detectors still useful? I thought most police these days either used laser (by the time they hit you with it, it's too late) or we are dealing with fixed camera/radars which are pointed away from you, so would only be detected when you pass. And a lot...

Any Dash Cams you particularly like for being inconspicuous / ease of install?

Have a look at this thread of mine from Sept 2018. Some good tips in here. I was also looking for one that would work when parked... LR4 Dash Cams

Engine Diagram for LR4 5.0L Engine

That's a great resource. Thank you for sharing. I have a 2013 V8. I looked through this and a lot of the basic components look similar, but while we're on the topic.. anyone have the 2012-2016 manual? (or whatever the next version is before the Discovery)

    Front Fender Flare

Those look great! I had an LR3 prior to my LR4 and preferred the look of the black arches. Also... for any offroading (or parking lots for that matter) the arches stick out and take the brunt of everything. Makes sense to keep them unpolished. BUT.... eventually the painted arches grew on me.

Gas smell after driving. No error codes. No visible leaks.

Great to hear, Jimmy! Glad they dropped it and found it. Way worse to drop it and find... nothing. :D

    Installing Roof Rails

JangoSW, I posted my experience and solution a while back. Hopefully this is useful to you or the next guy who needs to remove the rail plugs; https://www.landroverworld.org/threads/how-to-remove-lr3-lr4-plastic-caps-securing-roof-ditch-molding.29200/ As far as getting those out. It's now a...

    Heated Windshield

My dealer replaced my Pilkington heated with the Fuyao which was crap. They claim it is the same, but I found the rain sensor did not work through the Fuyao glass which has a slightly different tint. I posted this on the forum and many had the same experiences and my independent LR mechanic...

Gas smell after driving. No error codes. No visible leaks.

Good luck! Let us know what it is once they drop the tank and have a look. Be interesting to know if these symptoms are consistently gasket related, vs. how many things are DMTL pump or filler hose leaks.

Gas smell after driving. No error codes. No visible leaks.

Jimmy, if you read through this entire thread you already know that my issue was a "cracked apart fuel tank flange gasket" which could only be identified by dropping the tank. It does seem that there are several other things which could also cause this smell, so a shop will probably do another...

Skidding to a stop on snow and ice

Wow... I have never thought of using Low mode (let alone HDC) on slippery snow/ice descents. As I said earlier, I usually just shift manually into a low gear and that seems to do the trick. I don't ever even use HDC, other than when I first got the truck and was playing around... it sadly...

2015 LR4 HSE Windshield Wiper (Front + Back)

Thanks for the tip. I always use the RainX wipers (the higher end of the two they sell). They work great but still only last 12-18 months. I'll try these next time. Yes. You can just slide out the the rubber and put in new ones. I don't think it's that much of a cost savings but inspect the...

Skidding to a stop on snow and ice

Some great tips up there. Also keep in mind, that 1970s van was a lot lighter than your LR4. If all 4 tires are on ice, at some point you can't beat physics. You do what you can to mitigate it with tires and gear selection (I downshift instead of applying brakes) but unless you are driving...

    Fog Light Bulb...

That's pretty cool. I didn't know that was a thing. Then for daytime running lights and looks... I'd be covered with the whites! But when I really need white-out visibility... on with the yellows. Do you by any chance recall the specific bulb needed for the LR4 from them?

    Airing down 19" tires

:)I can only speak from personal experience on this one, but I always get very good tire life, even with my beach driving process mentioned in a long post above. Obviously, a sidewall blowout at highway speeds would be a bad thing, but I honestly have not seen an impact on the outside of the...

    Airing down 19" tires

Don't worry about the sidewalls. They'll handle it. Air down, have fun, tires will survive.

    LR4...the best. Still

Uh oh... I hadn't done the "build yours" yet. I'm at 100K on my 2013 and I took my 2005 to ~235K before I did not feel it was reliable for long family trips (and frankly interior trim items were giving out faster than the exterior). So, I figured when it's time I would probably take a hard look...

    Airing down 19" tires

I have driven my LR3 and LR4 a LOT on the sand for the past 14 years. I have to air down. If I go out at 42/36 psi I get stuck in soft sand. If it's really soft, it happens almost immediately. I'm talking soft fine beach sand when it hasn't rained in a while... ...so, now I always air down...
