I don't know about the fuel filter (someone will respond) but hit all the easy options first regarding the fuel smell. Use your nose to figure out where it is the worst. See if you see any wet areas underneath that look suspicious. Lots of tips as you saw in this thread. It can be tricky to... -

You're getting too scientific for me. I just read that as "hey, it's designed for leather, but if you overspray it won't harm anything." And they probably realize that once someone has a rag and a spray bottle, they'll wipe whatever they can. Use more product. Buy more product. :) I've bought... -

Good point, thanks. Yes, those small town rapid drops from highway speeds down to 35 are the absolutely worst, and 50% of the time there is a local patrol sitting there just waiting for everyone who gets caught by the un-anticipated drop. -

I absolutely love this stuff from Finish First. I got it on a lark one time because I use their polish. It really leaves the LR seats nice and soft. No oil. With regards to cleaning, I would say it is more of a light cleaner. With some rubbing I am able to get most things off that would get on... -

Off topic, but just curious... are radar detectors still useful? I thought most police these days either used laser (by the time they hit you with it, it's too late) or we are dealing with fixed camera/radars which are pointed away from you, so would only be detected when you pass. And a lot... -

Front Fender Flare
Those look great! I had an LR3 prior to my LR4 and preferred the look of the black arches. Also... for any offroading (or parking lots for that matter) the arches stick out and take the brunt of everything. Makes sense to keep them unpolished. BUT.... eventually the painted arches grew on me. -

Heated Windshield
My dealer replaced my Pilkington heated with the Fuyao which was crap. They claim it is the same, but I found the rain sensor did not work through the Fuyao glass which has a slightly different tint. I posted this on the forum and many had the same experiences and my independent LR mechanic... -

Good luck! Let us know what it is once they drop the tank and have a look. Be interesting to know if these symptoms are consistently gasket related, vs. how many things are DMTL pump or filler hose leaks. -

Jimmy, if you read through this entire thread you already know that my issue was a "cracked apart fuel tank flange gasket" which could only be identified by dropping the tank. It does seem that there are several other things which could also cause this smell, so a shop will probably do another... -

Skidding to a stop on snow and ice
Wow... I have never thought of using Low mode (let alone HDC) on slippery snow/ice descents. As I said earlier, I usually just shift manually into a low gear and that seems to do the trick. I don't ever even use HDC, other than when I first got the truck and was playing around... it sadly... -

Some great tips up there. Also keep in mind, that 1970s van was a lot lighter than your LR4. If all 4 tires are on ice, at some point you can't beat physics. You do what you can to mitigate it with tires and gear selection (I downshift instead of applying brakes) but unless you are driving... -

That's pretty cool. I didn't know that was a thing. Then for daytime running lights and looks... I'd be covered with the whites! But when I really need white-out visibility... on with the yellows. Do you by any chance recall the specific bulb needed for the LR4 from them? -

I have driven my LR3 and LR4 a LOT on the sand for the past 14 years. I have to air down. If I go out at 42/36 psi I get stuck in soft sand. If it's really soft, it happens almost immediately. I'm talking soft fine beach sand when it hasn't rained in a while... ...so, now I always air down...
