    Where is my coolant going??

+1 on the combustion leak test. Mine was losing coolant, had no visible leaks, held pressure, no white smoke from the exhaust... If you can't find coolant puddles in the engine or on the ground, rule out a blown head gasket or cracked head before proceeding with any further diagnostics.

Coolant leak & collapsed top hose when cold?

I know I sound like a broken record, but test for exhaust gases in coolant before doing anything else. Don't waste any money or time until you rule out head gasket issues.

    2015 LR4 - Major engine work - Sell / Sell Parts

Sorry man. Since you are in Iowa, you could reach out to the Lost Cause Ranch guy on youtube... He may be interested since you are close by.

    2015 LR4 Head Gasket Replacement

This is an interesting comment to me... This makes it sound like you may have had a head gasket leak prior to having the cooling system work done. Its possible the original leak under the supercharger could have been caused by combustion pressure building up in the cooling system, and when you...

    dreaded coolant level warning

FWIW, I bought the pressure tester tool from HF as well.. Had to return it because it was so poorly made and would not maintain a seal. I ended up renting one from O'reilly auto parts that had metal adapters. Keep us posted on how it goes.

    dreaded coolant level warning

Depends on why the coolant is leaking in the engine area... I know of 2 scenarios: 1. The Y-pipe, Crossover pipe, or other hoses and connections failed purely because they got brittle and cracked due to heat cycles, or 2. the head gasket has failed and created too much pressure for the plastic...

    dreaded coolant level warning

My 2 cents from my LR4 cooling system experience (documented on this forum)... Pressure testing the cooling system is a good idea, for sure. However, in my case, for whatever reason, the cooling system passed the pressure test, but did not tell me that I was losing coolant through one or more...

    LR4 Owner Considering Disco 2

Yep. I've owned a D2 (new), L322's (new), and LR4 (very used). The LR4 is the vehicle that has completely ruined me. Literally, nothing comes close to the ride and driving experience. Since I had to get rid of it (engine failure), I now look at all other vehicles as appliances. Anyone...

Does anyone have an idea of what this rumble/knocking sound might be?

What motor? V8 or SC V6? Video 2 has the best audio, but its still tough to tell. Does it only happen under load? May try to post some videos of the engine bay with someone else working the accelerator.

2016 LR4 Original Owner. 75k. Thinking about selling, but not sure of alternative rides that can do everything this does.

I hear ya. Time to go back to the basics. Things are getting too complex and expensive to enjoy outside of the warranty period.

P0430 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2) - My car is running great

I am assuming it was a head gasket leak or possibly a cracked head. I didn't dig much deeper after my test results, and instead chose to cut my losses and sell the car "for parts".

P0430 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2) - My car is running great

I had same code with a beautifully running motor and it turned out to be coolant getting in the combustion chamber and deteriorating the cats. Knowing what I know now, the first thing I would do is a combustion gas leak test just for peace of mind... Test kit is cheap from harbor freight. I...

I think it's time to move on...

Thanks, and good for you man! I wish I had your resolve. I thought about fixing it myself, but, I think the limiting factor for me, or what I keep telling myself anyway, was a lack of a garage space to work on it. It would have taken me months to get it done due to the lack of time I have...

    2011 5.0 head gaskets

Sold it to someone (basically for parts) that was going to attempt to fix it. Came real close to putting a reman engine in it for $10k, but ultimately decided to cut my losses. Stress levels have never been lower.

    Open to Suggestions

This is one of several reasons why I chose not to put a new motor in mine.... Too many "while the patient is on the table" moments could easily double the cost. Look forward to watching your progress. Love that transmission hoist.

Nice.... I plan on following your other thread... keep updating it with progress reports. Good luck!

I think it's time to move on...

I was very close to putting a new motor in it. Unfortunately, a new motor does not mean you will have a trouble-free vehicle... and dealing with the non-motor related issues after spending the money on a new motor was not something I was willing to do.

    Check engine light on

Your battery in good shape? When I would work on mine, sometimes the battery would get low and throw these types of faults initially. After running it for a little while, the faults would eventually clear.

I think it's time to move on...

Well, I finally got my head around the idea that its time to get rid of the LR4. Most of you probably haven't seen the issues I have posted about, but in short, I have exhaust gas leaking into the cooling system. Assuming blown head gasket or cracked head... I just don't have the time/space to...

LR4 - Coolant Under Pressure When Cold

I pulled the two in the engine compartment in the fuse box next to the battery. Both had the gas pump symbol. One is a relay and the other is a fuse.

Chasing an HVAC issue and I need some help here...

Not sure if a bad expansion valve would cause a leak in the evap. But before I took the dash apart, I would make damn sure the issue was one of those two parts. I think I would at a minimum, confirm there are no leaks in any of the accessible plumbing (spraying soapy water?), and have someone...

    New engine noise

I can't imagine it went 40k without an oil change. I would assume there was at least one in that time period that wasn't reported to carfax. Certainly, none of the DIY work on my cars will be reported to carfax.

Chasing an HVAC issue and I need some help here...

It could just be a blend door issue. From limited experience with replacing blend door motors, I believe if the blend door that closes the heater core off when the ac is on, doesn't close all the way, then you will get heat mixed with the cold air. I had this issue on an F150 and a Suburban...
