I'll answer my own questions based on more research and getting comfortable with this...
"Can somebody confirm if the passenger side chain and the driver side chain are the same; I imagine they are (given the physics) but I'd like to be sure (part LR032048)"
They are the same, on my shopping...
Can somebody confirm if the passenger side chain and the driver side chain are the same; I imagine they are (given the physics) but I'd like to be sure (part LR032048). Same question for the tensioner (the hydraulic/spring tensioner) (part LR095472) and then again for the guide (the aluminum...
Yeah - was watching the same video last night (but didn't finish it as I fell asleep - all the stress...)! Also Mountain Views garage is putting out some great videos, he strikes me as a super nice dude. Here you go:

Here's a look at the end of the connector:
Top view:
It was a lot easier to remove these than I was expecting (given how hard some connectors can be to disengage). Questions?
First up, here's the one that's broken or missing the white/gray clip:
I'll figure out what to do a different day...
Here's a closeup of the clip fully engaged, in this position the connector will not disconnect:
You simply push very gently in the direction of the two red arrows:
This...
And... with these engines you really don't want to mess around with a leaky engine; there are two components that when they fail they can fail dramatically; as mentioned above it's the front and rear crossover pipes, for some context:
Front crossover...
OK, so you're advocating to soda blast it (once things are nicely sealed up off course), blow away the dust and then potentially pressure wash it to clean off any residue? I likewise pressure wash my engines... I really like the idea of cleaning up the engine as it looks dirty!
Hi Folks, the following is a picture of the electrical connector that connects the coil to the engine wiring harness. There are 8 of these; 1 for each coil (it's the V8):
I really don't want to break any wires so I'm looking for tips on how to disconnect these; is it a case of pulling back...
I removed the driver side vent this past weekend (looking at sunroof drainage issues); for those of you trying to go in via the engine compartment and down through the hinge opening pay attention to this photo:
It's certainly interesting to get it out, I ended up using a trim removal tool...
Isn't soda going to leave another kind of mess, is the thinking that you just blow it off the engine? How do you stop it getting into the engine (I know the dust typically goes everywhere)... Curious to hear more now that I realize it's basically just sand blaster technology with a different...
I started this weekend!... Rather than write a ton of articles I plan to add to other threads where I found things more difficult than described, with that said I just posted on the removal of the air intake manifold. I'm also taking lots of photos as I see this taking me quite a while... I...
Here's the manifold underside:
Here's the underside of the throttle body; you need to undo the two pipes to remove the front of the air intake manifold; the passenger side pipe goes under the manifold and connects to the rear crossover pipe:
I removed the air intake manifold from my V8 5.0L LR4 today; I didn't find it that easy! Once the ten M6 bolts have been removed the front lifts up reasonably easily; by front I mean the end with the throttle body (assuming everything has been disconnected). The rear end had me baffled as it...
Damn! That is so kind of you, I ended up purchasing based on the links above. In the spirit of community I will commit to the same offer once I'm done with them. Thank you so much.
Hey Folks,
In the spirit of recycling things and before I head off to Amazon does anyone have either kit that they'd like to sale, I'm looking for two kits similar to these:
Crankshaft Pulley Remover Installer Tool Kit
Petrol Timing Tools (V8) 5.0L
I'd be grateful for other suggestions as...
Agreed with ftillier - take the bolt to a local reputable hardware store and ask them to identify the thread on the bolt (M8 or M10 by the look of it - but thread pitch is also important, e.g. M8 x 1.25); you then need a tap and a tap wrench:
you then use this to clean up the threads, screw...
Just to follow-up, with the cables swapped and a whole bunch of other experiments I still get the same readings... As ftillier points out, the temperature sensor is a thermistor which changes resistance with temperature; resistor type devices are typically not sensitive to direction of...
I reread the temperatures, this is ignition on/engine off, initially I got this (which I suspect is why I aborted this the first time):
Rather than going to quick list I went to the full list and was able to read the following (the engine hasn't been started today):
I then realized I could...
I didn't read them yet, I was under the impression that I couldn't get the temps without the engine running! Will look once I'm free of meetings - Thank you.
"Are you sure the new ECT is giving you the reading on the left?"
Yes I think so, it's the same sensor that was previously complaining about a circuit issue. For some reason it seems to be measuring hot when it's not; the pipe wasn't even hot to the touch. Perhaps the wires are the wrong way...
ftillier - thank you so much, the warming up quickly makes sense I think, the thermostat likely hasn't opened yet... Your values are significantly lower! Ambient when I did the test was 14C. I will need to check again today.
