Rusted brake line

Hello. Apparently the metal brake line down the passenger side of MY2011 is rusted out, causing a major leak.

My Indy says it'll be $1-2k, based on the labor to remove plates, and the entire exhaust; part being $250.

Ouch! I'm limited on what I can do myself, but any way this can be less expensive than $2k for a brake line?

ours had a similar issue two years ago..in the shop for a new epb module and the mechanic happend to bump the brake line, it started leaking...was nearly rusted through [what gives with this? brake lines should be coated] anhow, yes entire exhaust has to come off, skid pans off, r&r lines and bleed etc. I would guess anything less than $2k is probably a decent deal considering the hours of work and expected frozen/rusted fasteners.

Well... there's a few common ways to do the job:
1. Lift the body and replace the lines. (its just a matter of time til the other side rusts out)
2. Work from underneath as your Inde suggests.
or
3. Run a new line in a different location, without any of the work described above. (Can't imagine a proper mechanic not knowing how to do this)

Your budget will assist in selecting the path you take. I chose 1. And friend of mine chose 3.

I guess I'm going with #1. Mechanic says the other side is ok, so he's going to leave it alone. I'll report back on the hit. Thanks for the feedback.
