Can NAV ping you for speed cameras?

There are lots of speed cameras popping up around my area.

I was wondering if it is possible to set some kind of marker at known cameras, and then have the NAV chime when you are approaching the markers.

I'm sure someone has thought of this, figured I'd ask...

I've always wondered if someone could tap into the satellite and see how quickly you're driving... Gotta love big brother.

Not to hi-jack your thread, but on another note, someone was recently telling me about a "black box" available for cars. Often stock on some higher end cars, that records the speed, if the brakes were hit, etc, in an automobile accident. Anyone know if the LR3 has such a feature?

You should be able to store a known speed camera location as memory point, then assign an icon with sound to it. When you approach the stored memory point, the chime/sound you selected would play to remind you that you are closing in... And you'd also see the icon on the map screen as you approach (you could "dedicate" a specific warning icon and chime among the ones available for just speed cameras, so you don't get confused and hit the brakes in time... ) You would be limited by the satnav's available storage space when saving these speed cameras as memory points, but other than that it should work.

Thanks! I never use the chime so didn't know how it worked. (I have all the other annoying voice prompts and such turned off).

You are righto on the memory limits. I have used all my memory points and have to selectively delete old ones when I want to store a new place.

I just bought a radar detector that has all the red light cameras and speed cameras loaded on it and you can update it. bell makes one adn I think ****** makes one as well.
If you are in a state that dose not allow radar bell makes a 100% undetectable detector.
Then you wont use up all your memory points.

How on earth does a radar detector know where you are in relation to the red light cams? Do they have GPS now too?

Yup, some top of the line models have built-in GPS capabilities so you can mark your own speed traps, exclude known false alarm areas, etc. I still swear by my trusty V1, but I have to admit that the new detectors are way more advanced in features.

Wow.

I have not owned a radar detector since high school. Now that everything had shifted over to mostly laser speed traps I kind of figured they were worthless anyway as once the alarm goes off ,you're already caught.

But, I'd buy one just for the speed camera inventory. I'll have to check them out. Thanks.
