I agree, the last thing I want on my car is a badge with the dealer name. Most are put on crooked then fade or partially peel off. The only thing worse is the incompetent body shop that repairs the back then applies the OE badges incorrectly. You see this on Audis and VW's all the time. I recently saw an A4 with a "2.T0" badge, placed way too high up.

I was pleasantly surprised when our 2015 showed up with this and the extra "URY". Our 2014 LUX didn't have it.

I've never seen LUX on any years prior to the 15'.

I have never seen that "LUXURY" badge either. Must be part of the HSE-LUX running board package.

The Luxury version was a special edition package. A 'normal' HSE-LUX just has the HSE badge.

"""2012 Land Rover LR4 HSE Luxury Limited Edition

As its name suggests, the 2012 Land Rover LR4 Luxury Limited Edition gets a quality-of-life upgrade over the richly appointed standard LR4. The cabin is swathed in new “Arabica”-colored leather with contrasting stitchwork, and the perforated leather steering wheel is unique to the Luxury Limited. Dark-finished Zebrano wood interior trim is another LR4 Limited Edition exclusive. Just like the special Sport Supercharged above, the special LR4 comes standard with a 17-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system. Outside, the Luxury Limited Edition is distinguished by 10-spoke 20-inch wheels, extra metal brightwork, and xenon adaptive headlights."""

In 2014, they have an "XXV" Special Edition. Same kinda deal. Just a more special model to spike sales, but not really much better. Mostly just flashy plastic and color options.

No mention of special edition at the time of ordering. hmmm. Aside from the Luxury badge, its an exact copy of our 2014.

Paul, maybe those fancy running boards that are taking up room in my garage gave me that distinction? I better put them back on... :burnout:

Nice to see that you were brave enough to take off the running boards. I would have done the same thing as they reduce ground clearance and get your pants dirty. I guess it's possible that they may improve side impact protection by a slight margin as Land Rover claims.

The more likely story is that they have been making a certain number of LR3 & LR4 running boards every year since 2005 that nobody bought and they are piled high in the factory. Better get rid of them before the Discovery goes into production...so every LR4 gets running boards now. Let's see if every new Discovery comes with them.

In fairness to Land Rover, the factory running boards on 2015+ LR4s only look like the ones from earlier model years, they are constructed quite differently and with an entirely different main purpose - side impact protection vs. just ease of entry/exit for little people - so they aren't "warehouse leftovers" (which is kinda what I thought as well, initially.)

I think the 2015s with Lux package have them. Just bought a 5 month old 2015 LR4 with LUX package and black pack and it has the HSE badge on the left side of the tailgate and a Lux badge on the right side.

Follow up to that comment, has pictures of the luxury badge.

I found it because I saw a couple with the gray surround on the grille and on top of the mirrors and couldn't figure out what that was. Now I know.
