Lots of discussions about how spacers change the suspension geometry and loads on certain areas of the running gear and that may cause premature failures, but I also know TONS of people over on BMW X board who run them all the time with no ill effects - though none of them are putting those vehicles are being put through anything like the LR might be subject to.

Exactly. And also, as I mentioned, they use lug bolts not nuts, so there is a single interface.

wow, thanks for all of the insight everyone. i want to keep this simple. so to really dumb this down, is the easiest and best option (although not cheapest) to simply get the compmotive wheels from the UK? Is that the only option that won't require any modification to add the BFG AT 265/65/R18s?

With comp wheels and the 265/65/R18, you wont have to modify anything and shouldn't have rubbing (if any, very light).

Fitting the spare might be an issue, I haven't done that yet. I will have on board air anyway, but ill have to deflate to fit it and then inflate a bit to keep the TPMS sensor from going off.

That's the simplest option, I believe. You could also order "blanks" of a rim and have them custom drilled to the LR4 specs. If you go that route, check out Fuel Offroad, KMC XD Series, and BMF wheels.

By the way, I have 265/65R18 BFG AT's and they're great tires. You won't regret it.

Best of luck. Be sure to keep us all posted!

Mbw- let me know if you get the spare to fit. I still haven't had time to attempt it. Looks tight.

Good luck with that project, probably because its sidewall is so stiff I've heard the BFG is a major ***** to winch up in the spare wheel well. I would leave the tire as deflated as necessary to get it up, and either live with the spare tire TPMS fault that pops up (briefly, then it extinguishes) whenever you start the car, or turn off spare tire monitoring via diagnostics - you can do that with an IIDTool. Even if you somehow figure out a way to inflate the spare after winching it up (the valve stem will be facing up), it will likely not be anywhere near the pressure it needs to be to turn off the TPMS warning, and on top of that you run the risk of the tire jamming up in the well when you really need it to drop. I've seen that happen on a trail, not fun.

True, I will update when I get there. I'd really like to leave the exhaust heat shield, so im not sure how it will go.. if at all. I plan to get the wheels mounted soon.

No way that tire will fit down there w/o removing the heat shield, sorry... Tried it myself before.

Method Race Wheels (based in CA) may be another option; something I'm going to pursue myself eventually. I have the "Standard" on my 4Runner right now. Good looking and cheap! My understanding is they pull blanks and drill for each order, so they may be able to drill for an LR4. I have no idea if the wheels I.D. would fit around the calipers.

great idea, i just called method race and spoke with them. they've never drilled them for an LR4 but he thinks they would fit. Anyway, they are out of blanks until early October.
