Drove home with a new '13 RRS Lux.

http://www.landroversj.com/2013-Land-Rover-Range-Rover-Sport-San-Jose-CA/vd/14179529

I'm totally exhausted, dealership fatigue, will write more once I get my marbles together.

I ended up getting Ebony interior, after seeing it in person, I totally fell in love with it. The white contrast stitching is go elegant. The leather is absolutely supple... never felt such wonderful leather in my life. I just love my choice. I thought I would never get black in a Land Rover, but it was just too hard to pass up. I drove a few combos and although I thought I had to have Almond no matter what, I found the color nice, but so much like my LR4, the change was welcome.

I'll write more later tonight, how it drives etc.

I hope you guys will let me stay in the LR4 area though... I don't want to leave this area. :)
Wow! Congratulations!

That is absolutely beautiful. I love the ebony with white contrast stitching - looks incredible.

I am now so excited to see and feel the Lux leather in my ordered LR4. I love the dark seat with white contrast stitching - awesome! I'm sure your RRS has nicer leather though.

I can't wait to hear more about your overall impressions and ride.

Now I am a bit jealous since I was back and forth about a 2013 RRS ;-)

Hopefully you will stay on the LR4 forum!

Hahahahaha!!! ;-) I think he wants to stay on the LR4 forum, as the RRS is full of soccer moms. Hahaha! Just kidding!

I agree - awesome new ride.

Totally!!! :) hehehe....

Eric was awesome. He's such an easy guy to work with. The first thing he said actually as we started talking was "this guy" he just placed an order for, for the last V8s... and his name is David... and I'm like, oh yeah, David West... and he's like yeah!!! You know him? Have you seen his LR4???? He said your LR4 is awesome! I do want to see it in person. We'll have to get together soon. I would love to show you the new RRS.

The LR4 is awesome... I love and will always love it. But after taking the RRS out for a test drive I knew minutes in that it was the truck I wanted to move up to. It's amazing in all respects. It's just so Range Rover in so many ways. The fit and finish is superb. The feel of the steering wheel and overall steering ratio reminded me of a sports car... and yes, it still is heavy, but it feels so right. The exhaust note alone is so damn addicting. I can't even explain it. I can only imagine how intoxicating the supercharged version is.

We got a really good deal. Not over the top, but a very fair deal. My wife did most of the negotiating since she closes multi-million dollar deals for corporations all the time and that helped. I played my part and Eric played his. They gave us a great trade-in number as well. I think something like $39. That was more than fair because it is Izmir Blue after all and not the most desired color. Even if they flip it for $45 I'm okay with that. But I kept thinking back to that one at Redwood City, with only 15K on the clock, Izmir Blue, selling for $42.

The truck also came with the rubber mat kit with all this crazy stuff... I haven't even figured out what to do with it yet. I'll have to read up on it. And although after my wife talked the price down, she also asked to have that option cost removed, basically, thrown in for free. Nicest rubber mats I've ever seen actually.

And the twist pile carpet mats are awesome too. They feel so nice... so soft. Everything... the wood looks amazing, the seats hug my body but still give that commanding Land Rover feeling. The mood-lighting is great on the black.

The picture of the car online just don't do it service. In person the black is actually very contrasty. More so than you'd think. And the white stitching, SICK. I can't stop looking at it.

David, you're Arabica with the white contrast stitching is going to look awesome. Eric said you chose the best color combo. Man, that guy rocks. We gotta hang out with him one day.

They had the new RR there, nice... but one day. I'm happy with this next stepping stone in my life. It was a treat to myself and next round, in 3-or-so-years, I'll try the new RRS and/or maybe the RR. We'll see. But I can see myself hanging onto this one for a long time.

Also, the acoustic glass is amazing, the cabin is so damn quiet. The cabin is truly Range Rover... man.

More to come. Oh, the stereo is great too... finally! A better audio system.

I don't know if the leather is the same, but I assume it is. There is no comparison to our HSE non-lux interior. One thing I liked about my now gone LR4 was that the leather was easy... I didn't have to worry about it. But I'm going to have to be a little more careful with this leather. But that's okay.... I miss really caring about a car.

That's so funny about Eric mentioning me and my LR4 order. I know that they all like my LR4, which is why he seemed pretty excited about me turning it in a bit early. I hope that works to my advantage when we are discussing the final numbers (the fact that he thinks my LR4 is awesome).

I told you that you would fall in love with the RRS - it drives similar to the LR4, but more sporty and nimble. When I had the 2012 for the day it was pretty fun and definitely made me appreciate the ride. I absolutely love the color of your new RRS and the interior is beautiful - that ebony is such a nice change. I was considering ebony as a change from my almond/arabica interior, but I really want those arabica-colored seats. I am pretty excited about my color combination overall, but I sort of miss having something that is a bit new, sort of like with your new RRS. It has the familiarity of a Land Rover, but it's a different vehicle. Even though my new LR4 will be a bit different in some ways, it will still feel similar as far as layout, etc.

It sounds like you got a good deal and that's great. You are lucky that your wife is good at such negotiations, that really helps a lot. I am OK at it, but definitely could be a bit better. Although for my just ordered LR4, I have been pretty firm about the deal that I want and what I am expecting.

I am sure the photos do not do your new RRS justice, as they never do. I definitely want to see that interior in person - it looks so nice. That's the one thing about the new RR, it doesn't really have a lot of options with contrast stitching - which is weird to me.

I can't wait to see photos! :) I don't think anyone will object if you post them on here! :)

I will be curious to compare the Lux leather in the LR4 and RRS. I would also imagine they are the same. I do like my non-Lux HSE leather in current LR4 because it is very easy to clean and seems really durable, but after looking at the Lux leather - it really doesn't compare. The Lux leather is beautiful and so much more comfortable. I was actually really surprised at how different the Lux and non-Lux leather is, so that's why I knew I wanted Lux this time around.

How about the HID lights? Such a difference - huh? :) Oh, and you finally get the LED rings! :) They look really awesome on the RRS.

I forget, does the RRS have an automatic closing tail gate? I know that it does not open like the LR4, but I forget if it has auto-close? I don't think so?

I'd also love to see the mood lighting - I am excited to get that on my next LR4.

Do you think you will powder coat the wheels? :)

Your Arabica is going to be beautiful. They had a Fuji White w/Arabica (no contrast stitching for some odd reason) and the colour is stunning... even without the contrast. I was saying a few threads back that I didn't want it without the contrast, but seeing it in person, even without, it's really, really nice. You're going to love it for sure. The only reason why I didn't go for it was the RRS was Fuji White and although a very nice combo/colour, my wife and I agreed on the other one we purchased. Plus, it was over 70K and had the entertainment system which I have no interest in, neither does my son, and the headrests were silly HUGE! hahaha

Yes, the tailgate is automatic and what a blessing. I usually don't care too much about those things, but it sure makes it a little easier, especially with a kid. My wife will surely love it even more.

You and I have lived in the NON-LUX world and suffered long enough... having Lux anything is really a huge step up and a real treat. Just the smell of that leather, my goodness. When I opened the door of the RRS and sat inside... and smelled that leather, I was hooked... It was like a drug. You're going to have that same experience when your's comes in.

The '12 RRS you drove for the day, was that Lux?

Okay, as for the HIDs. They're nice. Way better than what we've suffered. Well, me more than you since you upgraded. But are they wow? Yeah, kinda. My wife's Benz has them and I'd say they're comparable. I also need to find a really dark road to really grade them. Just too many street lights around these days. I'm glad I have them though, I'm now in the 21st century. haha

The MY13 RRS have the Silver Package that you can add on top of the Lux package. It's something like a $4200 dollar value for only $1900. Eric explained that they are doing this to exhaust inventory for the new RRS line. Makes sense. So if you get the Silver Package on the MY13 RRS, you get all the goodies. Early '13 didn't have this package, just add-ons optioins. So I feel pretty lucky...

HSE Lux Silver Pack
$1,900
Includes:
• Vision Assist Pack (Xenon Adaptive Front Lighting, Automatic High Beam Assist and Surround Camera System)
• Premium LOGIC7® Audio Package (Harmon Kardon Audio with 825 watts and 17 speakers plus Satellite and HD)
• Black Lacquer Finish or Anigre Wood Finish (Straight Grain Walnut Wood Finish available as a no charge option)
• 20" 5-spoke Alloy Wheels - Style 6 (20" Split 5 Spoke Alloy Wheel Style 12 - Sparkle Silver, 19" 15-Spoke Alloy Wheels - Style 5 and 20" 15-Spoke Alloy Wheels - Style 3 are available as no charge options)

I haven't played with everything yet... still just getting acclimated. The auto high beam assist is a welcome option, my wife's car has it and it's actually really nice. I can live without this stuff... (not the leather though!) but having them is nice too. The surround camera system is still IMO just something extra and I'll probably never use it, even if I off-road. But we'll see... I'll have to play around with it and see how I can use it in real life.

The extended leather is really, really nice. There is so much leather in this thing. Just moving your hand over the dash is thrill. The armrests too. It's such a nice treat. There are very few cars in this price range that have full-leather like that. I am really happy with it.

Now, it's much smaller inside compared to the LR4. It's still roomy, very roomy, but not huge. Space is limited and it took a little getting used to. My LR4 had insane headroom, you could put a ten-footer in there no problem! The RRS is a much more focused cockpit. It's car-like, but Rover-like too. It's really hard to explain. But I also really love the more focused cockpit, it's a nice change and I feel snug. The seats are very supportive... very sport. And then you have that Land Rover hood, that Land Rover weight... and feel, that makes it still feel like you can drive anywhere. Land Rover is an amazing company. They really have something so special. From the LR4 to the RR... I really hope they don't lose it.

Now, as for the V8. Same engine as you know, but it's got a much deeper growl and the exhaust is superb. Not obnoxious, just nice... rich and deep. I freaking love the sound. It sounds closer to the older Disco II V8. A nice, deep, base... and just enough vibration to let you know that it's been sported. Another smart Land Rover move with the same engine as the LR4... just tuned a little differently. The new RRS w/SC V6 WILL NEVER come close to the V8s we have now. Never! And if '14 LR4 gets the V6... SAD. Seriously. It's not Land Rover's fault... but it's very sad such a masterpiece motor will no longer be.

Highway driving was great... just what I needed. Truck feels very confident and stable. Still has that classic LR weight/slight roll, but it's firm and doesn't feel as if it'll ever surprise you, unless you drive irresponsibly. Drives beautifully. Steering is quick too... very, very nice and welcome considering I've come from a sports cars in my past.

The mood light is pretty sweet. Pretty much like all the new cars. My wife's car has nice mood lighting. But it's not Mercedes S-class mood lighting at all. Nice, very nice... but not so nice that you're blown away by it. It's a nice change... and again, for us non-Lux guys, this stuff is like having electricity for the first time :) Also, the mood lighting in the RRS is a bluish/led light and it worked perfectly with the black. I can't see that same lighting working with Almond and even more glad I didn't get that. I'm pretty sure the LR4 has a different/warm mood lighting set-up.

BTW, I can be good at negotiating and suck at it too. Just depends on how I feel at the time I have to negotiate or even communicate hahaha. If I'm in a bad mood forget it, I don't even like dealing with people. But my Wife on the other hand doesn't really care, she's good on her feet. When we were at the dealership, my Son started going ape-****... had one of those fruit juices in the Land Rover fridge and it wired him up pretty good. So I took him for some food and left my wife completely alone to make the deal. First time I've done that. And I was happy... she did awesome. :proud: yay
