Hello everyone

Just picked up a 2011 LR4 HSE LUX on Friday. Santorini Black with Almond interior. Kind of an unusual buying experience. This car is for my wife, who was previously driving a 2007 Chevy Tahoe. While it was a decent vehicle, we decided we wanted something just as good in the snow but a bit smaller so she could park easier and have more room in our garage. After months of searching online and at local dealerships, she decided she liked the LR4...without ever driving one or seeing one in person. Problem was, living in Traverse City, MI the nearest dealers are a 3-4 hour drive away.

I started searching dealers in Michigan and finally found the perfect black/almond HSE LUX in Farmington Hills which is 4 hours away. The salesperson was very easy to deal with....a very pleasant surprise after dealing with domestic car dealers. The car stickered for $58,000 and we settled on a purchase price of $54,500. They even gave me $1000 more for my Tahoe trade-in than the local dealers. My wife and I made the 250 mile trek excited and nervous at the same time. Buying a car sight unseen is something we've never done before.

We were greeted warmly at the dealer on a rainy early Friday afternoon and were taken to the back to see the LR4. It was stunning. Next, we inspected the inside to make sure there was enough room for our 2 child seats and 70lb golden retriever. While the LR4 is smaller and quite a bit narrower than the Tahoe, it still had plenty of room for us. My wife was especially apprehensive about the smaller dimensions, but after a test drive she was won over. The abundance of glass in the 2nd and 3rd rows really gives a feeling of openness the Tahoe lacked. The interior materials are top notch as well. Like everyone, it seems, the touchscreen system is a bit odd, but after a day we got used to it. The 13 speaker Harmon Kardon sound system is fantastic.

We've now had the LR4 4 days. The 250 mile trek home was a pleasure and around our small town Im actually getting around 16 mpg.....about the same as the Tahoe.

Here are some pics from my phone. Sorry about the size, still figuring out the site.

Congratulations!

I am moving to Panama in June and went there a couple of weeks ago to look around places to live and cars. I was set on Toyota 4Runner and had never even considered a Land Rover. I stopped at the LR dealer out of curiosity after going to Toyota, Honda, Audi and BMW.

The LR salesman offered me a test drive and that was it. That's all it took: a 5 minute drive :stupid: I ordered a Stornoway Gray with Almond/Arabica interior especially imported for us (since they regularly import only black interiors) and should be there by the time we get to Panama... Can't wait

I live in Michigan too (Detroit area) and interested in buying an LR4. I haven't been to the Farmington Hills dealership, but I have been to the ones in Birmingham and Lakeside (Macomb). Have yet to test drive one, though.

Land Rover Joe here in Africa-I have a 2010 LR4.

I bought my LR4 for a variety of reasons...one being the wife.

So...how does your wife like the truck?!

Cheers,

Hello,

Land Rover Joe here.

I bought my 2010 LR4 for a lot of different reasons...one being my wife.

Since you have bought the truck largely because of your wife, whatever praise you have for the truck is suspect!

So--how does your wife like the LR4?

Best wishes,
Land Rover Joe

PS. My wife loves the truck and has become a road terror zipping at high speed with much faster acceleration than anything else in town. Plus, for all the off-roading types out there...the ladies of the house are highly unlikely to ever put the truck into L4, check differential fluids, and lock hubs (OK-I know there are gals who have no problem rebolting drive shafts on...but my wife is not one of them!) So the electronically controlled transmission is a big win.

So far my wife loves it. I do as well. The biggest obstacle for her was going from a larger Tahoe to a smaller vehicle. Now that she's had a week of hauling kids around shes comfortable with it. We are not off-roaders, but the real test for the LR4 will be our first full winter next year. The area we live in averages 120 inches of snow per year. This year we got 150 inches. We live in an open area that gets very windy during the winter. There are days where we get a foot of snow overnight with 2-3 foot drifts on our street. Thats where the LR4 will be put to the test.
