Hello everyone
Just picked up a 2011 LR4 HSE LUX on Friday. Santorini Black with Almond interior. Kind of an unusual buying experience. This car is for my wife, who was previously driving a 2007 Chevy Tahoe. While it was a decent vehicle, we decided we wanted something just as good in the snow but a bit smaller so she could park easier and have more room in our garage. After months of searching online and at local dealerships, she decided she liked the LR4...without ever driving one or seeing one in person. Problem was, living in Traverse City, MI the nearest dealers are a 3-4 hour drive away.
I started searching dealers in Michigan and finally found the perfect black/almond HSE LUX in Farmington Hills which is 4 hours away. The salesperson was very easy to deal with....a very pleasant surprise after dealing with domestic car dealers. The car stickered for $58,000 and we settled on a purchase price of $54,500. They even gave me $1000 more for my Tahoe trade-in than the local dealers. My wife and I made the 250 mile trek excited and nervous at the same time. Buying a car sight unseen is something we've never done before.
We were greeted warmly at the dealer on a rainy early Friday afternoon and were taken to the back to see the LR4. It was stunning. Next, we inspected the inside to make sure there was enough room for our 2 child seats and 70lb golden retriever. While the LR4 is smaller and quite a bit narrower than the Tahoe, it still had plenty of room for us. My wife was especially apprehensive about the smaller dimensions, but after a test drive she was won over. The abundance of glass in the 2nd and 3rd rows really gives a feeling of openness the Tahoe lacked. The interior materials are top notch as well. Like everyone, it seems, the touchscreen system is a bit odd, but after a day we got used to it. The 13 speaker Harmon Kardon sound system is fantastic.
We've now had the LR4 4 days. The 250 mile trek home was a pleasure and around our small town Im actually getting around 16 mpg.....about the same as the Tahoe.
Here are some pics from my phone. Sorry about the size, still figuring out the site.
