Hi all,

For those of you that have replaced your stock bulbs with the CVs, did you really notice the increase in light?

What did the bulbs look like when you got them? I got them in the appropriate packaging, but there are so many scams right now I'm a little concerned. My bulbs had a blue tip on them and the overall bulb had a blue tint to the glass.

I'm only asking these questions as I didn't really see that much change in color or brightness last night with my quick drive. Tonight I plan a little longer drive to see what they look like outside of the city.

Thanks,

Rob
Hello Rob,

My bulbs looked the same - overall bluish tint with a blue tip. The packing all looked legitimate as I got them from an automotive shop on Amazon.com. I notice a huge difference after I changed out my low beam halogens and the fog lights with H11s and the high beams with H7s. If you already have HID lights, as baobay stated, it won''t be much of a change just switching out the fogs and high beams.

Or, maybe it's the street lights off setting your LR4's lights?

Either way, best of luck with them -- hoping it works out.

Thanks for the replies!

I took it out last night about 10:30 and drove it a little bit. I can see the difference now in both fogs and hi beams. Maybe I was expecting more as everyone raved about the difference. I suspect you guys are right, I already had the HID lows, so I'm mostly looking at color difference for the fogs and hi's.

I caught my reflection in the tailgate of the truck in front of me this morning and the fogs really looked like the same color range of the HID lows. So I say "mission accomplished" on getting the desired effect.

Thanks everyone!

Rob

Can I ask a couple of questions about these replacement lights? First of all what is the cost and where did you purchase? Second you did the work yourself? I don't know if I would want to do it myself so any suggestions on who could do it? Don't really think I would want to take to dealer.

Hello LRnewbie11,

You will find that everyone on here is so great about answering questions and providing advice. A couple weeks ago I was just like you, as I was so afraid to make the replacements on my own. In fact, I was pretty scared to tackle the job myself, but it went very well. My first question to you is regarding your current low-beam lights, do you have the HID lighting package? If you do, then you do not need to replace your low beams, but you can replace your fog lights and high beams. The low beams replacement is for the halogen bulbs that come standard. Let us know if you have the upgraded lighting or not. If you have the Lux package, then you do have the HID lighting.

You can purchase the bulbs on amazon.com and they are as follows (information from CountLaszio):

low beam and fog lights = Philips Crystal Vision Ultra - H11 (low beam and fogs) Part 12362 S2

high beam = Philips Crystal Vision Ultra - H7 Part 12972 S2

I will tell you I am absolutely STUPID when it comes to doing anything like this, but it was really easy. The bulbs are around $35 a pair for the H11s and a bit less for the H7s. If you decide to get them, let us know, I (and I am sure others) will write a very detailed step-by-step guide to changing them. I would even be willing to talk to you on the phone and walk you through it if you wish. If you really don't want to touch the lights, then I am sure you can pay the dealership or a garage to install them. But, honestly, it's really simple.

Let me know!

Thanks. I have the HSE with 7 seat comfort pkg and climate pkg so no HID low beams and no HID fog lights. The other potential problem is that I am leasing the truck so I'm wondering if it is wise to replace the bulbs on a leased vehicle. I guess I can always put the other ones back in when I turn the truck in at the end of the lease. One more question... when you switch these bulbs out does that trigger the warning light on the control panel? By the way how are these so cheap because I was seeing these kits go for like $250 and up.

I love the truck and this board has already been a big help. Can't wait to learn more about the truck and the LR culture in general.

Dear LRnewbie,
these bulbs (Philips Crystal Vision Ultra) are not HIDs. They are Halogens that are ultra bright and emmit a white and bright light similar to HIDs. The HID kits are $250. These are not HID kits! The stock halogens that come in the LR4 are very yellow and dim. Even if you are leasing, I would highly recommend this conversion since you will get much better vision while driving at night. Much safer imo. You don't have to do the high beams of fogs if you don't want to, but the low beams are a must as far as I am concerned.

I looked these up on Amazon and it said that these are not compatible with LR4. Is that a mistake? Anyways, yes I would be interested in some specific advice for switching these bulbs out. I have read that it only takes maybe 30 min.
