I just purchased a 2011 LR4. I have never had a car which had connections for iPod and USB devices so I am a little confused.

Should I be able to connect my iPod via its USB cord...into the LR4's USB slot? Or will it only work if connected to the LR4's dedicated iPod slot? When I connect it to the USB slot...nothing happens. It does not charge or do anything.

Also, should Land Rover supply the iPod connection cord for the iPod slot? I know I was not given one by the dealer. Just curious...Thanks. If not, can you purchase the connection cord anywhere BESIDES a Land Rover dealership?

To use the iPod, you must use the LR iPod connector cable. You should have received the cable from the dealer (the 2010's came with it). The only problem is that the cable is very short and if you're using an iPhone, you will not be able to easily get to the phone. You can always buy a 30pin extension cable on Amazon.

I really find it easier to just go buy a cheap USB thumb drive and use that instead.

The iPod/iPhone lead is no longer included with 2011s and you will need to purchase it separately, part # LR019691, s/b about $75. Unless you can find that exact part # available in the aftermarket, I wouldn't chance it and would buy the OEM lead from the dealer.

From my experience neither MBZ, BMW, Cadillac or Audi provides the cable for free. Your Dealer may throw it in but it is on him.

At least the cable in the LR4 works really well.

You may be better off getting a cheap USB thumbdrive and just leave it in the car.

Well, $75 for a cable is ludicrous...

Do you get to use playlists and search by via the touchscreen for Artist or Album with a Thumbdrive?

I don't recall ... I'd have to check, but I just put the tracks I like in separate folders for each mood ...

Not True

I don't know others but I also have an 2010 Cadillac Escalade and my brother owns on 2010 Mercedes S550. Their USB connections work very well with my Iphone 4. You don't need an additional cable because you can use the cable that comes with your Iphone. It shouldn't be that difficult to correct this problem with an software update.
