So long story short, the guys in my garage backed into something and shattered the rear windshield on my 11 LR4. The garage will cover the replacement but I am concerned that they may use someone other than land rover to replace it. Has anyone ever had their rear windshield replaced by someone other than a land rover dealer? Just wanted to make sure I'm right to be concerned about using someone else. Thanks.

You can ALWAYS demand that they use OEM parts. I'd presume that because the car is relatively low volume that only OEM (Genuine Land Rover) glass exists. I haven't checked, but typically there is a watermark on the glass that shows the manufacturer. I'll need to look in the daylight to see if it exists on the back glass as well.

I would DEMAND OEM glass - for sure! I had something similar happen with my previous Mercedes wagon and I made sure they used OEM glass. I think for the rear windshield it's that Pilkington (or something?) glass. Either way, make them use OEM glass!!!

I don't think you will have to worry about the OEM parts, I got a new front windshield last year and the only place that stocked one was the dealer 50 miles away. I'm sure the back is the same way.

You may have a little harder time getting them to allow the dealer to install it. but any glass shop can do the install no-problem.

Thanks for the replies, very helpful. Apparently they are picking up the glass from the local land rover dealer today and installing it this afternoon. Hopefully all goes well.

curious if you were happy with the replacement? I need to replace my front windshield and don't know if I should demand a OEM windshield and have someone else do it or take it to the dealer? Thanks.
