We are about to be empty nesters and my wife needed a new car because the Jeep Wrangler is going to our son. We decided on a Land Rover but had difficulty deciding which model between the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and LR4. We test drove all of them. We eliminated the Sport because we did not like the visibility and the height of the center console. We felt it was too tight. So between the Range Rover and LR4 we decided on the LR4. We liked the visibility, low center console and pocketed the 40K difference. Ordered the HSE in Scotia Gray Almond Interior and have a mid April delivery. We ordered Vision Assist, Climate Comfort package, Sirius Radio, InControl and the Black lacquer as options. Given all I read we also bought the 100,000 mile no deductible Land Rover warranty. Went in with our eyes open that these cars break and cost a lot to fix them. Only the future will tell whether our gamble paid off. We hold cars for 10 years+ and drive them for 130,000 miles+.
We negotiated between three dealers in the area all via internet. No "let me talk with the manager" nonsense. They all start with "we sell at MSRP" but after you show some degree of seriousness this quickly changes. Ultimately we played one against the other and got 5% off MSRP. I don't expect it to be the best deal just a fair one.
I thank everyone for their posts which helped me to educate myself.
