We are about to be empty nesters and my wife needed a new car because the Jeep Wrangler is going to our son. We decided on a Land Rover but had difficulty deciding which model between the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and LR4. We test drove all of them. We eliminated the Sport because we did not like the visibility and the height of the center console. We felt it was too tight. So between the Range Rover and LR4 we decided on the LR4. We liked the visibility, low center console and pocketed the 40K difference. Ordered the HSE in Scotia Gray Almond Interior and have a mid April delivery. We ordered Vision Assist, Climate Comfort package, Sirius Radio, InControl and the Black lacquer as options. Given all I read we also bought the 100,000 mile no deductible Land Rover warranty. Went in with our eyes open that these cars break and cost a lot to fix them. Only the future will tell whether our gamble paid off. We hold cars for 10 years+ and drive them for 130,000 miles+.

We negotiated between three dealers in the area all via internet. No "let me talk with the manager" nonsense. They all start with "we sell at MSRP" but after you show some degree of seriousness this quickly changes. Ultimately we played one against the other and got 5% off MSRP. I don't expect it to be the best deal just a fair one.

I thank everyone for their posts which helped me to educate myself.

Great choice and nice first post! Also, ditto on the photo request. I never get tired of seeing these vehicles up close.

Congratulations! Looking forward to seeing pics - especially those showing you giving it a proper use. Since you had a Jeep I'll assume that you like to explore "off pavement" once in a while. My wife and I are empty nesters and went with the LR4 for similar reasons. Just so much you will be able to do with this vehicle!

Welcome and congrats on the purchase. I think you did very well with 5% off MSRP.

Welcome indeed! You'll absolutely LOVE the LR4. It's a great vehicle, and I'm often told by Land Rover service specialists that it's the best of the bunch. It maneuvers like a small sedan, is comfortable as a large sedan, has the capability only a Land Rover can offer, the towing ability of a small tank, and the cargo/passenger capacity of a small bus. Hard to beat it!!

I contacted a number of Rover dealers all over the East coast, and 5% is a great deal. There simply isn't much movement from MSRP for these things. Coming from an American brand, it was hard to believe.

It maneuvers like a small sedan...

Not to pick on you but...

I love my LR4. It's great and handles & maneuvers well for being what it is: a 3-ton, high-riding tank. It's also great because it is compact for the amount of volume and comfort it provides and the steering and brake feel are surprisingly good. But it is NOT like a small sedan.

I often hear praise in here that would make one think we are discussing a 3-series.

Compared to any half-decent sedan, the LR4 handles like crap. And it should, given what it is. I'm glad it's one of the least crappy handling SUV's, though.

When I wrote that, I was not thinking about handling, but maneuverability. It's easier to pull into and out of a parking space in the Rover than it is in many sedans due to its turning radius. Heck, I can do a U-turn in the road in front of my house. I wouldn't even think of doing that in my Silverado.

The LR4 will definitely not be confused for my Corvette on the curvy mountain roads, but it's maneuverability in tight spaces is unreal -- particularly for a vehicle of its size. I can assure you that a Tahoe/Yukon wouldn't come within a mile in this regard.

This I agree 100% with.

P.S. I'm lucky to have a 997TT to play with on nice days and my wife has a Cooper S. Those two cars feel extra special and fun after driving the LR4.
