Will it cause any issues in the LR3 if I coast in neutral gear for a long time?

jwest....from my standpoint you just have less control of the vehicle when it's hurtling down a hill in N. Generic statement. ....for all the trouble of having to shift out of D and then find a suitable time/place to put it back in, you save 4 mpg for an entire ~10 seconds.

Hence my blanket statement of it being not smart. I don't disagree with the independent facts that you state....I just think at the end of the day it's not something I'd do or advise doing just because of the hassle.

"trouble" ? it's less trouble than changing the nav map size...
"suitable place" well, whenever my hand moves the lever is about the right time.

I think you're making WAY more out of all that than is true practice in reality. Maybe you are freaked out by driving though, like some older people ;) I do not suggest you try anything you might not be comfortable doing.

Bwahahahahahaha.......Right.

Driving is the most natural thing I do. I don't get freaked out by anything; but there are times when I like to minimize workload. I also like to manage vehicle energy. I just don't find value in putting it in N for 25 seconds and then putting it back in D.

Here's is a photo of me "freaking out."

You're making assumptions. Neither Paula or I are talking about "25 seconds". On big trips there are hills with anywhere from 2, 5 and sometimes 10 minutes. Around here just think of coming west from top of Snoqualmie Pass. An easy safe road that if I let it run out on weight alone, will have me at 85 mph before slowing due to air mass.

That's a fair example. I believe last time I tripped my mileage calculator at the top Snoqualmie and let it idle down (in Sport Mode no less) it read "999.9 mpg."

I just don't see it being worth it. It's pickin' the pepper out of the fly $hit.
