I took a 2,000 mile trip a couple of weeks ago and averaged 72 mph. While on the trip and the first week I was home, the **** (I call it "transmission lash" because that's what it was called in the early automatics in the '50's) was gone. After a week of normal city driving it came back (less often than before), but it is still there. Maybe you just have to really load it (long high-speed trip, or jager's coast) to get it to go away for a while?.

A new 'prototype-program' was loaded onto my vehicle from a ZF Techican/Programmer's laptop while my truck was in the shop and it completely fixed the transmission **** problem. Changed the gearing out of a slow turn and lags a little bit, but they're still prefecting that part. There should be a complete program done soon that will be loaded onto LR3s during service updates in the future (I'm told).

nice! if you hear about an official release , let us know.

i had a dense moment with my service advisor as i explained this known problem...they checked my fluid level. "that's fine, but you don't undestand this is a known issue with the lr3..." "we'll check to see if there are any error codes as well"

...forget it...just make sure its noted in the service record. :)

dropped my car off today for the alignment tire wear issue and they said there is a new drive train download for my car. i'll let you know if this fixes it. for me, the transmission **** seems to be getting worse and now occurs several times a day unless i am really slow on the gas pedal.

I was at the dealer last Saturday and they told me that this latest revision of Windows LR3 has this particular 'upgrade' incorporated into the 'vehicle enhancement'.......

I just had the vehicle enhancement done. So far, no trans clunk. Funny thing is that I told them to look into the clunk and they reported that they "could not replicate". Maybe they tried it after they did the enhancement?

Jeff - they still have my vehicle. I was told that they are going to try to load the powertrain "tune" (i.e. latest software version). Apparentely, and hopefully GROMMET can provide better details, this software can not be loaded through the standard LR3 interface. However, the LR3 has the capability to use another interface that does allow this software to be loaded. My dealership claims they are trying this now with a RRS and they are able to use a computer interface which they have for their Jaquars. If it works on the RRS, they should be able to do my LR3 as well. Or something like that...

When I get it back and can drive it, I'll let you know!

FIXED!!!!!!!!!!

Whew...Got the car back Friday afternoon and have been driving it around for the past few days with zero transmission jerks. Could be that all my transmission learned behaviors were reset with the upgrade, but I'm still sure I would have seen it by now.

According to my service manager Land Rover refers to this issue as the "California Stop." You come to a rolling stop, the speed drops below 2.5mph, and the transmission downshifts to 1st. It is supposed to stay in 2nd until you come to a complete stop, which it now does!

They upgraded my powertrain software. The notes on my invoice said;

"LMM Minor Maintenance
Reflashed During B036 using patch 7"

Apparently it was difficult to reflash just the powertrain computer. They had to upgrade their test equipment to gain this capability after failed attempts using a new jaquar test interface.

Anyway, no transmission jerks thus far. Car runs great.
