Go for the LR3. The price seems high. I bought my LR3 in 2008 with 45k for $17,000 when gas prices were $4.00+. I have the V8 and love it. The V6 is a basic Ford 4.0 that was in the explorer. My father had two V6 explorer company cars and both engines imploded, one at 86k and the other at 110k, and both had been well maintained. My advice is to go with the V8 all day. I could understand going with the six if there was a decent difference in mileage

To me the price is high. I have been watching prices in the Portland area for the last year and they have done nothing but go up. Example 06 HSE with 44k miles for 33k!!! However I have also noticed that they aren't selling. A lot of these LR3's have been sitting on the the dealer lots (Some I have seen advertised for up to a year!!). Consider traveling to Portland or Seattle. You should be able to find a nicely equipped V8 for that price. I'd consider private party too. This way you aren't paying the the dealer 2k to detail the car!

I purchased a 2006 LR3SE seven passenger with the 4.0L V6 with 32,000 miles back in December for $21,900 from a LR dealer. The biggest factor for me was nearly a full year of factory bumper to bumper warranty. Keep in mind when you get over 60K or so in mileage you can be looking at some significant maintenance costs. As far as the V6 is concerned, it is a tried and true, durable, reliable motor. Do some research on it and talk to people who are familiar with it. In my experience, the power has not been an issue whatsoever. It performs well and I have never felt like I really needed more in city, freeway and trail driving.

This is incorrect information. It is not the Ranger/Explorer V6. This engine is a Jaguar derived powerplant, and it has proven to be a VERY solid engine.

Actually, the V6 does very well. I have a lot of seat time in both platforms. After driving a V8 for 8,000+ miles, I jumped back into the V6 and did not find it lacking. The V8 feels a bit more nimble at speed (for passing), but the V6 is an impressive engine. It has considerably more horsepower and torque than the old 3.9/4.2L V8's from previous Rovers. However, it does NOT get any better gas mileage, so all things being equal, I'd reccommend the V8 over the V6 also, but I would not pass up a deal on a V6 model just because of the engine. It's a solid powerplant. And, significantly I think, the V6 is better mated to the tranny than the V8. It's a potent combo.

Thanks for all the advice so far, I looked at prices in Seattle and Portland and there were some deals but not a lot cheaper. But when I looked back east they were significantly cheaper? I know from reading like eating brakes, tires and the air suspension can be troublesome. Is there anything else to look for?

here is the listing

Research and review the official recalls and tsb's (technical service bulletin) for the LR3. This will give you a sense of what the actual issues have been rather than only personal preferences and gripes. Some people are much fussier than others so it's best to make your own judgement, IMO. A good resource for recalls and tsb's is www.alldata.com

The 18.9k advertised on that listing is much more resonable...It also lists it as a V8. Is this the same rig??

It's listed wrong....it's a six. Wheels, and no V8 badging...

Why is the rear center seat so low?
