Hi everyone, My LR4 currently has a full length Bajarack up top which I'm very happy with. I'd like to add a rear ladder to the back and I've been looking for an OEM one but they seem to be long gone unless a used one were to pop up. I'm curious if anyone knows which ladders would be compatible with the Bajarack (as in wouldn't collide with the rack when opening the trunk). It seems like the Frontrunner one would work well but I can't find total confirmation.

Also, what are the realistic weight limit for these things? I'm pretty tall and broad (6'2" and 265lb) and just currently step up on the rear tires to access my rack but I like the idea of the ladder for a few reasons.
Thanks for any advice y'all can offer!

Hi. Not sure of weight capacities, but check out Frontrunner or Gobi ladders. I have a Gobi and it’s great. Looks like their designs are similar and should clear the Baja. Good luck!

..All the Cool Cats run Firenze;)

My advice:

1. Frontrunner, Gobi, or Stock. I've seen some new aluminum ones popping up on the auction sites, I wouldn't trust them..
2. Wherever you have paint and metal touching, apply thin sticky rubber matting to the paint. Use of the ladder can cause a lot of rubbing (especially at the top), and you don't want any rust forming up there..!

Keep in mind if you are going to use your roof rack a lot, the ladder going to take a beating, so don't hesitate to pick up a used one and freshen it up.. I've repainted mine 3 times with that spray on truck bed stuff, it's really grippy when it's wet/frozen out. I'm running a stock ladder that's on double duty holding the garbage bag, so it lives a busy life on the trail.

Good Luck,

I’ve not seen a stock one pop up yet used, and the frontrunner was definitely a…. Front runner (sorry I couldn’t pass up the pun) and I’ll potentially be going that route. The one from Voyager also seemed interesting, but it does stick up a bit above the top of the trunk door and I worry that would cause some clearance issues with my bajarack.

Agreed. I put a small bit of XPEL Armor over the paint.

I know this is not a **** solution, but I literally just carry a thin folding step ladder with me when I have my cargo boxes on the roof. It's actually easier to access the front and doesn't interfere with the tailgate/hatch or the paint. But I guess I'm a nerd : ) Also, I just step on the rear tires (like you), the bottom half of the rear hatch, or the folded down rear seats pretty often when I'm dealing with my big SUPs on the roof. Never really felt like I was missing anything not having a ladder. shrug.

I use the Kilimanjaro door latch steps for up front.
That's a neat thing I've not seen before, I'll check those out as well.

You're not wrong at all, it's honestly silly, but it's one of those details I saw as a kid in the 90s on early Discos that I kinda fell in love with, though I would actually find it practical now for my intended use cases. Worst case though I can totally still just use the tire as a step up ;)
