Thanks gentlemen. I had to tap out the threads when I installed my roof rack so I am somewhat familiar with the process. It was a bit of a PITA. Not hard to do, but tedious. I can only imagine what it will be like flat on my back underneath my rig with a dozen holes to tap out.

I'm a little disappointed with the rock sliders overall. Not because there is anything wrong with them or because I will need to do a bit of cleanup work on the installation. I had imagined they would help in getting in and out of the LR4. I'm not finding that to be true. I was able to get in and out just fine before. Now, when I step on the slider it raises me to the point that I am having to crouch and lower myself into the driver's seat. Getting out is much the same. Often, I find myself stepping over them and getting in and out like I did before.

Don't get me wrong, they look super cool, and with my full-sized Baja roof rack and access ladder, the black tubing on the sliders looks right, like it naturally belongs there. I also think it may help my pre-teen girls get in and out. They've always struggled a bit, having to find a way to crawl up and in. The one place where I can see them being truly helpful is when the truck is raised to off-road height.

I remember Jesse James (Monster Garage, Outlaw Garage) saying one time; Q: How do you know when you're done? A: When adding stuff doesn't make it any better, just different.

I think I might be getting close to that point.

The sellers wifes lr4 came with rack, ladder, compo's and sliders. She is at stock height so the sliders were an annoyance to them as they would hit their shins getting in and out. Hence the sale.

The tap did the trick. Surprisingly quick and easy. Amazing what you can do with the right tools. There was a little rust on the tap so the tech at Lucky 8 was right about the source of the problem (rust). It would have been nice if he would have suggested tapping the threads as the solution. I suspect he didn't want to comment on anything having to do with the vehicle, only his product.

I worked as a sales guy for a custom boat trailer manufacturer/retailer and we were trained not to comment on anything other than the trailer. Guy pulls up with his truck and electronic brake controller to hook up to our trailer and our guys would check that our connection was good and live, beyond that it was up to the truck owner to figure it out.

It came down to liability concerns. You only know, and are responsible for, your own product. Lucky 8 has no idea what condition my LR4 is in. They've never seen it. Plus, if they suggest I go messing around with a tap and boring out holes in my rig, I could mess that up royally and then try to pin the blame on them.

Thanks for your suggestions. They were spot on!

I install these side steps on my 2012 LR4 hse. Sharp looking for sure, and strong. The LR name is cut into them. A little finagling to get them to fit, but Im very happy with them.
