IMO if you find one less then $200, which is easy to do, it is well worth it for a better match up rather then going with a BMW on a Land Rover.

IT'S A SPARE!!! Theoretically it will only be on the rig for a day or two. Even if he finds a LR rim for $150...you can find the others for half of that. There is a strong liklihood that he'll never even use it! If he intends to get a 5th tire as well and wants the opportunity to drive on the spare until he "gets around to" repairing the blown tire then sure, yes Trynian, I would agree with you.

So here are the two scenarios, Dave:

1. Purchase 5 new tires and find one used (or new) LR rim. (extra $425 not including road hazzard on the tires). Allows you to drive around on your spare and replace blown tire at your leisure without looking like a tool.

2. Purchase 4 new tires + road hazzard and an X5 rim and used tire of like size ($200). Must replace tire immediately (next day) otherwise Trynian will call you a ******-bag.

...look either way is fine. To be honest, I'm not very patient and when I was looking for rims there simply weren't many used 10-spokers on the market. Maybe that has changed. I normally run with HSE rims and I have the HD package so I have a full-sized spare on, of course, a LR 6-spoke rim. ...but when I switch wheels/tires to sport my MT/Rs I have a BFG on an X5 rim and I'm totally fine with that.

It looks okay:

sounds good . . .
i will be buying 4 new toyo open county ATs when my stock tires start to go . . . will purchase 1 tire now to put on the spare rim.
Don't give a hoot how the spare looks . . . just worried I will get one that is too wide or too narrow . . . none of the X5s I've seen on e-bay say anything other then "stock" and/or 18" . . . as for Trynian - if he actually looks in the spare well . . . he can call me whatever he wants!!!!

Your right but as I said IMO I think it is better to go OEM even if it means $100 more. Off-road you never know what you might do to a rim even on easy trails and have to use the spare longer then you planned while it gets repaired.

That was the part you left out before. You have a whole other set of rims and tires to switch to when not on the trail. So if you damage a rim you can take your time getting it repaired or replaced.

My oppinioon is not what it looks like as it is about the factory rim which is worth it to me for the extra $100 not $225.

Not sure of the time frame but I will have 3 18" stock 10 spoke rims after mine come back from the powdercoating. One has some cosmetic scuffs but otherwise structurally sound. The other two have standard wear but really no scuffs or scratches. Probably about $100 each plus shipping. Looking at about 60 days or less.

Trynian...you make a good point. I'd forgotten that this is for his basic set of wheels and tires. I'd agree, if it's a $100 difference then wait and find an LR rim.

Heck to be honest I think you could "get home" with the donut spare if you had to. Then you could change it out the next day.
