Hey everyone,
I am new to the forum! I just sold my 2011 E70 (X5), because I want to go back to having a LR. My mom had a RRS, LR3, and an LR4. My dad has a G63, Jeep Liberty (DD), and a '94 Defender. I'm 18 and I live in Denver, CO. I just purchased a 2006 LR3! I pick it up on September 12th! The car is located in AZ. I had him take it to LR to be inspected and they said that it passed with flying colors. This will be my 2nd LR3 and I am super excited! It's a one owner vehicle with ALL of the service records from day one! It has 113k!! My dad and I are flying out to AZ to pick it up! I decided to get LR3 instead of a RR or RRS.

This is information from the ad:
Rear Seat & Climate Package: which includes second-and third-row fold flat seats, third-row side curtain airbag, third-row map lights and accessory power outlet, rear luggage net, and additional front cup holder, second-row A/C and heating controls, two vents at second-row headliner, two vents at third-row C-pillar and one outlet at the third-row lower level.

Cold Climate Package: includes heated front windshield, heated front and second-row seats, and heated windshield washer jets.

Heavy-Duty Package: includes a locking rear differential and a full-size spare alloy wheel.

Tow Package: includes a Class III receiver hitch

On/Off-Road Navigation system: with voice-activation

Lighting Package: (bi-Xenon headlights, auto-dimming rear view mirror, automatic headlights, and front fog lights)

Rear Park Distance control

Rain sensing wipers

Bluetooth cellphone setup

Cool. However, also strange that the factory wheels are not there. I'd remove the Discovery 2 wheels and be dam sure they are bored out correctly or have adapter inserts in the centering core.

Be aware the Land Rover LR3 wheels and hubs are "hub centering" and require proper fit to function safely and without issues. The wheel nuts are NOT supposed to be doing the job of centering the wheel.

This is like a BMW too which had hub centering wheels. If you ever changed those you'll know what I mean because you'd place the wheel onto the centering cylinder which allows to to still rotate the wheel to get the holes lined up, then thread in the wheel bolts.

The LR3 is the same in terms of having the wheel snugly fit onto the cylinder before the nuts go on and you can rotate it a little, but obviously not much because the studs come out through the holes.

Going on properly, you should be able to use a deep socket, just in your hand/fingers, and thread the nuts on almost all the way, then finish off with torque wrench to 105 lb-ft.

I really have no idea why it has those D2 wheels except that the 2006 LR3 HSE came with 19" wheels from factory. I'd check out the spare and verify the wheel marches and the tire too. The vehicle came equipped with tire pressure monitoring but those wheels wouldn't have come with the sensors in them. The buyer would have had to install them separately.

Something about that roof rack is also really bothering me. It looks like a factory "kit" rack but it's too short and even more odd, it's too wide. The roof tapers wide to narrow, front to rear. So, it almost looks like maybe someone cut off about 2-3 feet of the rach from the rear, then slid it back for mounting, and cannibalized something for the rear ends because the factory had vertical sections. A Range Rover Sport rack may have had slanted rear ends but I suppose the RRS roof may also be wider, thus using a wider rack, that clearly does not fit correctly on the LR3 roof as it tapers narrower.

Interesting stuff. Looks good overall.

Is there anything I should do before driving home? I was on my other forum and no one said anything about that, but if safety is involved I defiantly don't want to drive it until it's all proper. Thank you for your reply.

How "safe" they are inherently as a wheel is more a question for a mechanic on here or someone who has direct personal experience with fitting a Discovery 2 wheel to the LR3.

You might try using the search function here for "disco II wheel" or D2, etc. I do know that the center bore is not the same and there are reasons why you don't see these on lr3's hardly ever even though they are a lot cheaper and easier to find.

I'd ask where the heck the lr3 wheels went?

At the very least, I'd want to bring a torque wrench and make sure they are staying at 105 lb-ft. If they used lr3 nuts, the size is 22mm which is also close to 7/8" in a pinch.

Being debadged, do you know if it's an "HSE"? The only sensible reason they would have put those on is if it were an hse which came with 19" wheels and then being cheap they went to D2 wheels. It's a slacker move.

I feel like the d2 wheels center bore is smaller so I'm curious to see what they did. If this is some dealer where they have proper shop, I'd ask them to pull a wheel off, take a close up shot of the back in the center so you can see what was done. I'd also like to jnow what size is stamped into the tire sidewall and if there's a spare wheel under the rear.

The rear spare is a LR3 wheel which is good, I found a set of LR4 rims in Denver that are also blacked out for around 300. The ties need to be replaced within the next few thousand but might be worth it. I asked the owner and he sent me a picture of the paperwork, what they did was mount the d2 rims with a hub adapter, but even with that adapter which I looked up and is supposedly sound, I want to go back to the rims that came on the car. Maybe some lr4 rims, I don't think that I would have an issue with those, right?

In fact, you posted the ad said " Heavy-Duty Package: includes a locking rear differential and a full-size spare alloy wheel. "

So where the hell are the wheels and the spare had better be full size tire and matching wheel. In this case, it would be a downgrade to have bought another D2 wheel unless they are custom bored to match lr3 hub. I would seriously want more info on this before going forward. It's at least a point of negotiation. I'd want to see if the d2 wheels have the lr3 tire pressure sensors in them too, and of course the proper lr3 size tires, all 5.
