If so whats the best thing to do to fix the fading? If it is aftermarket what are the options for removing it? the fading is pretty bad especially towards the top and I would like to fix it.

thanks - chemlightbattery

It's aftermarket.

Steering wheel looks bad too...

That actually looks like the factory option wood trim kit. I believe it is just adheared by double sided sticky tape so you should be able to remove it...

I agree with the aftermarket comment. I have the same year LR3. My steering wheel looks the same as yours. I'm not sure what the problem is with that year models wheel.

Suggest heating it with a hair dryer to soften the adhesive, then gently remove.

Goof-off or rubbing alcohol may work to remove any residual adhesive. This is not from experience, just how I would attempt it.

Try a google search on this topic too, probably lots of tips from people with experience.

this wood kit is an OEM factory option. not aftermarket. i had a piece of mine become somewhat disfigured while still under warranty. the dealer replaced the whole setup for free. i like JackMac's suggestion regarding removal.

Steering wheel is a factory defect issue-my '05 had the same problem and they replaced the whole wheel under warranty-as for the wood-I would remove per the suggestions above.

another great product for removing the sticky residue is Goo-Gone. It's a citrus based product and works well. For stubborn stuff, you may have to rub it in a little with your finger.

Also, depending on the location of your LR3, you might not need a hairdryer if it's easier to park in the hot sun.
