Anybody else have a problem with the interior climate fan located behind the glove box chirping? Quite obnoxious. I tried putting some silicone spray on the shaft by spraying down below the pollen filter without removing the fan unit. Has anyone found a quick fix, or do I need to take it out for repair? If I do have to remove it, anyone have pictures or directions? Many thanks

I had mine replaced under the ESP warranty. Don't know of any quick fix, sorry.

I've had this issue with a Ford GT, and to make a long story short the only way to fix it it to remove the unit to clean & lubricate the bushings or bearings. Since I did not want to pull the entire dash out of the car I decided to use sound deadening material in an attempt to dampen the squeaking. It's about 90% effective, which in my case was acceptable. I used the thin adhesive material on the actual motor can & the thicker pad around the area. I found a local manufacture to buy the material but you can order it from a number of places on line, or stereo shops carry the stuff too.

Is it "chirping" or "farting?" Last week I fixed the obnoxious "farting" sound that mine was making. Does it make the sound when you turn the A/C on and off?

Read this thread:

You'll want to get the silicone spray or grease all up and down the left side of the white lever. It's hard to see, but just use a hanger or something with a small cloth on the end to spread the silicone or grease.

Does the silicon spray treatment work for the chirping or the farting?

Thanks for that, but mine is the fan chirping, had my farting corrected under warranty. I will check to see if anything is down there causing an imbalance in the fan.

Chirping Fan

Would your fan chirp while idling or parked, justed driving or all the time?! Just today I started hearing a chirp (interior), but it doesn't do it while parked or idling. I've only had the 2001 Discovery 3 days...and I'm worried it's something serious.

Thanks!

Welcome to the site!

If the chirping sound is coming from the blower motor, its not a big deal mechanically speaking. It might test your sanity though! A blower motor chirp will almost always be directly related to fan speed - sometimes it will only chirp on the lowest setting, but it can occur 100% of the time the fan is on. The easiest way to determine if the fan is the cause of your chirp is to turn off the HVAC system & listen for the sound (or lack of)!

Also, to be clear - your talking about a 2001 Discovery & while the symptoms are the same, this is the LR3 section. Your question would be more accurately answered in the Discovery area. I'll move it for you.

My LR3 just started this ventilation fan chirp this year when it first got cold.. its only when the fan is on the lowest setting. I guess its 5 years old, but only 55K miles, kind of sucks. This has happened on my old saabs, a 2003 Disco II, and an Audi I had. Tried a variety of things to fix those, new fan motor seems to be the only fix. Anyone know how much a ventilation fan is / how easy / difficult it is to replace on the lR3. I think i'll try to do it myself.

I have chirping as well in the vent area by the passenger side glove box. It seems to be more noticeable at speeds greater than 45 MPH. Dealer has not been able to correct it but am still under warranty so will keep on them and see if they have a fix.
