Last weekend I went on a very difficult trail in the Mojave Desert area of Southern California. The Doran Canyon trail is part of the Calico mining district, now a certified (and protected) ghost town area. One of the few remnants of the wild west / gold rush days.

Excellent writeup and pictures, nwoods. Do you mind if I link it to the Sport forum on rangerovers.net, since Adam's car is also "featured"?

That would be great!
The RRS belongs to Adam Spiker from www.offroving.com

I know, I had the great pleasure of taking some offroading "lessons" from Spiker and Nosal with my Sport late last year near Lake Elsinore, but don't think I am quite ready to follow you guys up those trails yet... Perhaps I'll join you in April @ Panamint Springs.

Somewhat off topic, but if you or anyone else here has an unused 10-spoke 18" rim from an LR3 and want to sell it, I am interested. I don't care if it's banged up, I have four already but need to stick an extra one under the car as spare.

FYI, I posted your link here: http://www.rangerovers.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15351 , thanks for letting me share.

I had the same issue with the 10 spoke wheels. Cheapest I found was about $220 at a used rim shop. I think it was something like 1-800-cheap-rims or something like that.

I ended up using a 5 spoke aluminum wheel that doesn't match asethetically, but it fits and got me home:
