Aftermarket Bonnet Struts?

My hood does a slow surprise drop on my head these days.

Looked online and LR struts seem to be $43-$50 a pair, plus shipping.

They can't be anything special but I didn't find an obvious alternative with a
Google search.

Any other options than the LRs?

I took mine off and use the built-in hinge clips. Free and the hood opens further and allows for much better lighting.

Hinge clips? These I have not noticed. I'll have to look...

But, I do like the idea of the struts. Seems higher quality than having to hold up the hood and reach for something else as I've had to do for several years on other cars.

Last week I ordered tailgate struts from Atlantic British when they went on sale for $25 a piece. With the colder weather recently in Florida the struts have seemed weaker... dropping the tailgate on my head trying to get the stroller out! The ladder hasn't helped I'm sure. Just got the order delivered today.

Didn't think to shop around too much for cheaper alternatives.

Edit: just opened it up. Made by Stabilus... not sure if they make hood struts and/or if it would be cheaper

Stabilus are the good struts!

Stabilus are I think also the original LR marked struts as well.

Regardless, they are the good ones.

Regarding the bonnet struts, replace them as a pair. Having one side carry more weight than the other can lead to a twisted bonnet.
